What’s the Deal With Fortnite’s Tilted Towers?

Whether you’ve been playing Fornite since it’s debut or you’ve recently downloaded it, you know that Tilted Towers remains intact. As much we love to soar the skies toward our beloved Tilted, all of us are filled with endless questions about the hotspot on the map that Epic Games has yet to answer.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it is worth explaining the hype. Fortnite is known as a game for multiple platforms: PC, Xbox One, and PS4. You can choose to partake in their player-versus-environment known as “Save the World,” but most people get their hands on the third-person shooter “Battle Royale.”

Getting to play against 100 other people on one map is only part of the reason “Battle Royale” is so exhilarating. There are billions of possible narratives that come from each match. You might find the best gun in a random bathroom or get multiple head-shots with a Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle. Regardless, there’s so many things about this game that makes us want to come back for more.

The objective of the game is to be the last person standing out of the other 100 people. You must collect material like wood and brick to build your own fort for protection. There are also plenty of weapons to use that you may find in random locations or in glowing chests. My favorites are as follows: the Blue Tactical Shotgun, the Blue Assault Rifle, and the Purple Tactical SMG.

So what is Tilted Towers and why does it matter? Tilted Towers is a hotspot on the entire map. Most people go there as a dare, a death wish, or a way to improve their survival skills. Masses of people land there per match, resulting in dozens of deaths reported on the kill feed.

Tilted is a great place to get weapons and material. Because it’s such a hotspot, there’s no doubt in my mind that the removal of the location may result in some shift in the usual routine that we see. It makes me wonder where most people will decide to land and if people will survive longer without Tilted being there.

However, it seems that the end is near for Tilted and there are hundreds of theories for the fate of it. Epic is not going to simply remove it. Instead, they’ve been quite secretive about the matter, throwing us cryptic messages.

Recently, players experienced startling vibrations on their controllers during their game play. When I felt these series of vibrations, I thought the same thing that everyone else did: maybe its a glitch or a way to tell us an enemy is nearby. We found that we were all wrong. The vibrations were morse code! It translates to “SOS D5 418.” “D5” is the area of Tilted Towers on the map, whereas 418 may refer to April 1, 2018.

Yet April is almost ending and Tilted is still intact. Perhaps it was all a joke on Epic’s behalf, but none of that explains why when you peer up at the sky, there appears a gleaming comet that makes an eerie, pulsating sound when you aim directly at it.

Around mid-April, some Fortnite players organized a mass meet-up to destroy Tilted themselves after they found that it remained the same.

Some theorize that the comet will finally impact Tilted Towers when the third season of Battle Royale ends. It gets even more interesting. Some believe that once the comet hits, it may result in the appearance of zombies. Such a thing would make gameplay more difficult.

There are already some smaller meteors falling sparsely. You may have to pay close attention in order to see one.

Tim Sweeney, founder of Epic Games, recently linked up with a Polish company during his company’s growth and many fans have found that the Battle Royale map has a striking resemblance to Poland. The location of Tilted Towers correlates with the location of Poznan, which was hit with a meteorite in 2015.

There are rumors that the hotspot will be replaced with “Captive Castle,” a name coined by the Fortnite community. An alternative possibility is “Smoldering Crater,” but none of these have been confirmed by Epic. Although, Epic has released artwork for “Captive Castle” as a new city to be added.

The future of Fortnite is uncertain for its enthusiasts. If you’ve watched Ninja, one of Fornite’s very best gamers, play in a duo match with Drake, you will find the the interactions very amusing. Ninja talks to Drake in a very nonchalant manner, as if he wasn’t talking to one of the world most famous rappers to date. Drake insists that Epic should continue to “freshen up” the current map instead of creating an entirely new map.

During their gameplay, Drake and Ninja discuss the development of Fortnite. “People ask me all the time what they think they should add,” Ninja explains. “I don’t want them to add anything from, like, my idea because they’re doing a great job without my help”. Even Drake agrees that the developers have been doing a spectacular job.

All of us are excited for whatever lies beyond season three of Fortnite: Battle Royale and the fate of Tilted Towers. While there are plenty other things we can do while we wait, like indulge in their alternate game mode like “50 v. 50,” the anticipation is killing us. Whatever Epic decides to do with Fortnite, I’d skydive into it with eyes closed.
