Tuesday, October 31 vs. Cardinal Stitch University

It was a big night for the Saint Xavier University women’s volleyball team as they competed at home for their annual senior night. Unfortunately, the team was unable to bring their winning streak home with them, but one thing they were able to bring home was a win against Cardinal Stitch.

SXU beat CSU 3 sets to 0 with scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-23. In the first set, junior Rory Manion and senior Kate Bontrager propelled the Cougars to a victory behind a plethora of key kills. In set 2, a lot of the points came from CSU playing errors, while the rest came from fantastic team play perpetuated by junior Courtney Joyce.

In the 3rd and final set, SXU and CSU went tic for tac to the very last minute. The two teams traded points, but a clutch kill by Manion and a service error cost CSU in the end. There were 3 key players who propelled the Cougars to a win.

First was Manion who had a hitting percentage of over .400 to go along with an impressive 14 kills. Next, senior Bridget Krasowski racked up 12 kills while having a hitting percentage of .458. Finally, junior Alex Lambros had a big game. She had 10 kills while finishing with a hitting percentage of .421.

The three women combined for an astonishing 36 kills which really exemplifies the amount of frontcourt dominance held by SXU in this one.

Thursday, Nov 2 vs. Judson University

The women competed in their 2nd match of the week against Judson University in an away game. The Cougars ended up winning this game 4 sets to Judson’s 1 with scores of 25-17, 25-20, 28-30, 25-14 respectively.

The Cougars were able to assert themselves in this one early as they took the first two sets. Juniors Alex Lambros and Rory Manion were key players in these sets as the two women combined for 9 kills in between the two sets.

The 3rd set was a war as Saint Xavier was fighting to win, while Judson was fighting to survive. The two teams went back and forth and stood at an eventual stand still at 24-24. SXU was able to score an additional 2 points to put them up 26-24, until Judson went on a massive 4-0 run to put them up 30-26 and propel them to a set victory.

The 4th set saw SXU dominate. The team won the set with a score of 25-14; shutting Judson down in the final moments of play as they went on a crazy 6-0 run. There were 3 major players in this one for Saint Xavier University. First there was senior Bridget Krasowski led Saint Xavier with 11 kills. Junior Helena Atton racked up 9 kills on a very efficient .444 hitting percentage.

Finally, senior Courtney Joyce obtained a double-double collecting 13 kills and 35 assists.

This was a big game for Saint Xavier as it ended up finalizing the 2nd place seeding in the upcoming CCAC tournament. The team competes in their first matchup 7th seed St. Ambrose University this upcoming Tuesday, November 7th.

I encourage all Cougars to support our Saint Xavier Cougars volleyball team as they venture out to the CCAC tournament.

The team recently has been clicking on all cylinders and looks borderline unstoppable. If you did yourself the disservice of missing any of the games while they were on their 15-game winning streak, I encourage you to go out and watch them do work in this tournament, because the team looks like it is slated to make history this year.

I encourage all Cougars to attend Saint Xavier home games in the CCAC tournament matchups. For any reason anyone is unable to attend, I will always be here to keep you updated on all of the volleyball madness.
