The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on everyone living in the United States. Schools, restaurants, malls, and gyms have all closed during the pandemic, which has been quite a shock to the country. The NBA, NHL, and MLB have all suspended their seasons, while the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, otherwise known as March Madness, was canceled.
However, wrestling continues to broadcast shows weekly. World Wrestling Entertainment, otherwise known as WWE, and All Elite Wrestling, or AEW, are currently the top two professional wrestling companies in the industry today. While they both have made the decision to continue their weekly shows, they are not allowing live audiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although many people have their opinions on this, one thing most agree on is that wrestling is not the same without the fans in the arena. Last week, WWE made a shocking announcement that WrestleMania 36, the biggest wrestling event in the wrestling industry, will be held without any fans in attendance.
This is obviously very unfortunate and sad, as the fans love being a part of the live experience, and the wrestlers love having the fans there as well.
I have been a fan of professional wrestling for the past sixteen years, and have attended several wrestling events over the years. Being at the shows with all of the other fans is such an amazing experience, and nothing else really matches up with it. It is difficult for me to watch wrestling without the fan interaction. This is a tough time to be a wrestling fan.
Another popular topic that many wrestling fans have been discussing is who is better at making the most out of this situation; WWE or AEW? In my opinion, so far, AEW has had the most success with not having a live audience. Last Wednesday, AEW substituted the fans for superstars. Although it is not the same, it is at least an attempt to make the best of what they have.
Whether you agree with me or not, we can all admit that professional wrestling is taking a huge hit without a live audience. This includes WrestleMania, as it will certainly be one of the least viewed WrestleMania’s ever due to the new restrictions. For everyone’s sake, including the wrestling industry, let’s hope that this pandemic clears up sooner rather than later.
