Sophomore guard/forward Morgan Stuut from the Saint Xavier University women’s basketball team has been named the January World Hyundai-Saint Xavier Athlete of the Month after her tremendous play. The Marcellus, Mich., native led SXU to a perfect 9-0 month and was also named NAIA player of the week once and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) player of the week twice during the month of January.
Stuut, a nursing major at Saint Xavier University, averaged a double-double in the month with a team-leading 17 points per game and 12.1 rebounds per game. In addition to the points and rebounds, Stuut averaged 3.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks per game as well.
In the week that Stuut won both the NAIA and CCAC player of the week honor, she scored 25 points and recorded 19 rebounds in an 81-61 victory over Roosevelt University (Ill.). Stuut then went on to score 26 points against conference rival Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on the road, she capped of the week with a 19 point and 16 rebound performance against Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.).
Stuut currently averages a team-leading double-double of 18.0 points per game and 11.1 rebounds per game. She is also first on the team with 35 total blocks and second on the team with 52 steals.
Stuut was honored prior to the women’s basketball contest against Purdue University Calumet (Ind.) on Saturday, February 2, at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Unfortunately for the Cougars, they had their 14-game winning streak snapped in the game after an 87-81 defeat at the hands of the visiting Peregrines.
Saint Xavier travels to Joliet, Ill., for its next game against conference rival University of Saint Francis (Ill.) on Wednesday, February 6 at 7 p.m.
