PARIS/SYRIA (CNN) – Following the attacks in Paris, the death count is now approximated to be around 129 people. The French government has begun bringing airstrikes against ISIS members within Syria.
CNN reports that on Tuesday there were seven airstrikes in addition to the airstrikes conducted on Sunday and Monday.
UNITED STATES/SYRIA – In the wake of the events in Paris, a series of governors have halted the intake of Syrian refugees into their respective states. Among these governors is Illinois’s own Bruce Rauner.
“Our nation and our state have a shared history of providing safe haven for those displaced by conflict, but the news surrounding the Paris terror attacks reminds us of the all-too-real security threats facing America. We must find a way to balance our tradition as a state welcoming of refugees while ensuring the safety and security of our citizens,” Rauner said in a statement.
Rauner did, however, leave the option open for refugees who pass validation tests by the American intelligence community.
“Therefore, the state of Illinois will temporarily suspend accepting new Syrian refugees and consider all of our legal options pending a full review of our country’s acceptance and security processes by the US Department of Homeland Security,” Rauner’s statement continued to explain.
The complete list of states that are opposing Syrian refugees from entering their borders include: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Main, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas Wisconsin.
The following states have governors who said that they would accept Syrian refugees: Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington.
The rest of the states have either not committed to one stance or another or simply have yet to give a statement on the matter.
