UKRAINE (CNN)- The cause of the Mayaysian Airlines Flight 17 crash has been reported. An investigation by the Dutch Safety Board found that the airline crashed after a missile warhead from the Ukraine exploded outside of the plane’s cockpit.
The Ukranian authorities claim that they had “sufficient reason” shut down all of the airspace over eastern Ukraine due to conflict on the ground. 298 people were aboard the aircraft when in crashed and there were no survivors.
ZIMBABWE (CNN)- On Monday, a Zimbabwean minister has stated that Walter Palmer, dentist from Minnesota, will not face charges for killing Cecil the Lion. Palmer stated that he was unaware of who the lion was, because he was unable to read the name on the collar.
It is not illegal to kill a collared lion, according to Palmer. Palmer faced global backlash for the killing and did say that he would cooperate with authorities if charges were brought against him.
GERMANY/CHINA (BBC)- Volkswagon, the German carmaker is recalling 1,950 cars after admitting to installing software into the vehicles that is designed to cheat emissions test. While 11 million vehicles are affected worldwide, the only cars being recalled are those that were imported into China. The carmaker has offered their apologies to their Chinese customers.
IRAQ (CNN)- Iraq’s military is claiming that they struck a convoy that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was inside. While it is unknown if the ISIS leader was in fact killed, Iraq’s air force did claim that nine ISIS officials and many of Baghdadi’s bodyguards died during the airstrike. The Pentagon has not been able to confirm this report.
JERUSALEM (BBC)- Three Israelis were killed after two of them being shot and stabbed by two attackers that were identified as Arabs. The third victim was also stabbed and killed in a different area of the city. Palestinians have been attacking Israelis on nearly a daily basis for the past two weeks.
Dozens of Israelis have been killed or wounded. At least 17 Palestinians and several attackers have been killed during this violent period.
