It was a home game for the SXU Cougars as they went up against Trinity International University. Trinity International stood at a record of 9-22, so they should be no match for the 20-15 Cougars. This proved to be right as the SXU beat Trinity 3 sets to 1. The Cougars took a tough 25-23 loss in the first set, but that seemed to be a wake-up call for the Cougars as they dominated the next 3 sets (25-17,25-14,25-11 respectively). Sophomore Helena Atton was the was the key factor in this game as she obtained a career high 20 kills. Sophomore Rory Manion and junior Sydney McPhillips added to this with15 and 13 kills. Manion added to this with 5 blocks as well. SXU was a defensive juggernaut not letting any ball so much as to breath on the floor as the team finished with 58 kills and 10 blocks. An overall dominating game for the Cougars.
This was just the game the Cougars needed to have leading them into CCAC tournament play. Their past performances haven’t been much to gloat over, but with a big win under their belt like this game, then this can be just the momentum they need to give them some key wins.
The CCAC Crossover tournament will be hosted by South Bend, Indiana this Friday, October 28th-SaturdayOctober 29th.
