Women’s Volleyball Team Extends Their Streak to 14

The women’s volleyball keeps on impressing and simply refuses to lose. Since the last time we’ve covered the team, the women have added 3 more wins to their winning streak now. Simply put, the women are steamrolling through the conference and are establishing themselves as serious competitors.

First game of the week turns into a win for the Cougars as they beat SAU 3 sets to 0. This was a big win for the women as this propelled them to their twelfth consecutive win and an all-time Volleyball program win streak.

The win came relatively easy too, and this is mainly thanks to the crazy performance by junior hitter Kate Bontrager. Bontrager contributed 12 kills and added 9 digs to really put her amazing game over the edge. Bontrager wasn’t the only one with a great game though as senior Courtney Joyce continued her electrifying style of play by totaling 31 assists and a team high of 12 digs.

What’s most amazing about this win is that everyone on the team contributed. In one section of the game, three different people obtained a kill followed by an ace by someone else. This level of team play not only makes the game fun to watch, but is part of what makes SXU such a deadly team for their opponents.

There’s only two words to describe the game against Trinity International: 13 straight. The Cougars beat TIU 3 sets to 0 (with scores of 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 respectively). The women were not playing around in this one as they dominated their opponents.

This dominate win came as no surprise though, as it was another big night for the Cougars. Starting off, senior hitter Bridget Krasowski had a memorable night as she finished the game with a season-high 16 kills and an impressive .536 hitting percentage.

This wasn’t the only hot Cougar as both Kate Bontrager and Courtney Joyce contributed in big ways again. Bontrager obtained a double-double, tallying 10 kills and 10 digs. Joyce also had a double-double with 34 assists and 11 digs. What’s most amazing about this matchup is that SXU never trailed in set 3.

This shows that not only did SXU want to finish the game, but it also shows the sense of urgency the team plays with. Although they were already up 2 sets on their opponent, they never settled or took their opponents and this is why this team won, and the team has a longstanding 13 game winning streak.

The Cougars are making history winning games left and right, and are making themselves hard to miss. But, for whatever reason you can’t make it out to show your support, keep it locked here at the Xavierite for a recap of that game, and many other happenings and events going on throughout the campus.
