The Saint Xavier women’s soccer team has reached a season-high four-straight losses.
The losing streak stretched to four games with the 3-nil loss to Roosevelt University Saturday.
The defeat was also the second-straight shutout the team has suffered. The previous clean sheet came at Cornerstone University on Oct. 28.
With the loss sending the Saint Xavier conference record to 3-6-1 (4-10-3 overall), the Cougars fell to the bottom half of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The win for the Lakers of Roosevelt was gave them just their second victory in the CCAC.
Despite being unable to score, the Cougars had their fair share of chances on the attack. Saint Xavier got away 14 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
Senior midfielder Morgan Graves, sophomore midfielder Brittany Kroening and junior defender Rachel Didier each had two shots on goal.
The Lakers had many more total shots with 23, but they were not as efficient. They directed only 11 of those shots on goal.
Roosevelt did not wait long to get the scoring going against the Saint Xavier defense and sophomore goalkeeper Alex Perry. Perry made seven stops while allowing the three goals against.
While Perry’s save percentage remains a solid 80%, the Cougars continue to have woes on the attack. The Cougars have scored a combined two goals in their last four matches.
The Lakers scored in the 21st minute on a rebound. They added a free-kick score in the 54th minute and a strike in the 64th minute.
As the Cougars continue to fall, the outlook for the CCAC tournament, which begins on Friday, looks bleaker and bleaker.
