The Women’s Cross Country team has a lot to be proud off after their impressive 2nd place finish in the recent St. Twilight invite. More reason to be excited is their recent jump in the 2016 NAIA Women’s Cross Country Top 25. At the start of the season, the Cougars were ranked at 21, but their performance boosted them up 5 spots to put them up to number 16. This is a huge accomplishment, as it put SXU as the top ranked school in the Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference. Not only this, but this is the highest ranking the team has held in five years! Back in 2011, the team started the season at 13, and finished 16th. Based off of their recent performance, I personally believe the Cougars not only have a chance to keep ascending on the top 25, but surpass their 2011 ranking of number 13. The team competes in its second tournament of the year this coming Friday (September 16.) The National Catholic Championships are hosted by University of Notre Dame, and is sure to feature some competition looking to knock SXU off of their pedestal. Not to worry though, fellow Cougars, the team has overcome expectations once before, and is sure to overcome them once again to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the NAIA.
