Women’s Basketball Takes a Commanding Win On The Road

After starting the season with two defeats, the St. Xavier University women’s basketball team took on Holy Cross on Saturday, November 12. 

The Cougars defeated Holy Cross 83-64, improving to 3-2 on the season. 

SXU shooting from the field was at 32-57 (56.1%), and this was enough for their 3rd consecutive win. 

On 15 attempts from behind the arc, SXU connected on just five shots, shooting just around 33.3% from downtown.  They also shot 66.7% from the free throw line on 14-21 shooting.

Senior guard, Alyssa Streeter, led the way for the Cougars posting 22 points on very efficient shooting. She shot 10-14 (71%) from the floor, and she also put up three steals and five rebounds. 

Senior forward, Claire Austin, also did her part, she had 18 points, and dominated the glass with 12 rebounds. Austin also showed off her play-making ability as a forward by posting six assists. 

 Senior guard, Maia Fawcett, also provided a spark off the bench by scoring 12 points.

SXU did start slow as they only scored 12 points in the first quarter but then went into a rhythm by scoring 26 in the second quarter and 25 in the third to take them to a 19-point win over their opponents.

The Cougars will go on the road again to take on Indiana University-South Bend on November 16 with tip-off scheduled for 4:30om.
