On April 3 and April 4, the Saint Xavier women’s golf team competed in the Lawrence Tech University Invite at the Stonehenge Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan.
The women did very well, finishing second as a team out of the six teams that competed.
On top of that, all four of the women on the team finished in the top 12 in individual scoring.
On the first day of the tournament, the Cougars played well enough to put themselves into second place with a team score of 355.
Individually, sophomore Taylor Thompson was tied for first with a score of 82, freshman Hannah Cruz was tied for seventh with a score of 88, sophomore Katie Reno was tied for tenth with a score of 91 and freshman Hunter Schultz was tied for 16th with a score of 94.
On the second and final day of the tournament, Saint Xavier finished the day with a score of 337 and a tournament score of 692, firmly placing them in second as a team behind the host Lawrence Tech golf team who finished with a score of 671.
Thompson would finish the tournament in first place, individually, after posting a score of 76 on the second day and a combined score of 158.
Cruz would also do well, placing in fifth after posting a score of 85 on the second day and finishing the tournament with a total of 173. Schultz would finish tied for ninth place after posting a second day score of 86 and a tournament score of 180.
Reno finished tied for 11th place after posting a score of 90 on day two and tournament score of 181.
The women will be looking to build on this great performance when they compete in the Bethel College Invite at the Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18.
Men
On April 3, and April 4, the Saint Xavier men’s golf team competed in the Lawrence Tech University Invite at the Stonehenge Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan.
The men did well placing in second out of 12 teams. Individually, the Cougars had two standout performers as sophomores Robert Lively and Kyle Yaeger both finished in the top five.
After day one of the tournament, the Cougars were tied at third place with Calvin College with a score of 302.
Individually, Lively was tied for fifth place with a score of 73, junior Zack Trent was tied for tenth with a score of of 74, Yaeger was tied for 14th with a score of 75, and freshman Michael Perez was tied for 41st with a score of 80.
On the second and final day of the tournament, the Cougars played well with a score of 305 to combine for a total score of 607 over the course of two days. That would place them in second behind the University of Northwestern Ohio who finished with a score of 605.
Lively would finish in second overall after scoring 73 on the second day to post a total score of 146 for the tournament, finishing one point behind Northwestern Ohio’s Sebastian Sundell for first place.
Yaeger would finish tied for fourth with Calvin College’s James Van Noord after posting a second day score of 73 and a tournament score of 148. Trent would finish tied for 19th after having an off day on Saturday and posting a score of 80. He would finish with a combined score of 154.
Perez would score a 79 on the second day and finish with a total of 159 points placing him in a tie for 29th. Despite finishing in second, both Lively’s and Yaeger’s performances landed them on the all-tournament team.
The Cougars will look to continue this success on Thursday, April 9, at the Olivet Nazarene University Spring Invite at Balmoral Woods Country Club in Crete, IL.
