Tuesday, September 19 vs. Roosevelt University
It was the first of three games this week for the Cougars and they started it with a home game vs. conference rival Roosevelt.
Thankfully, the Cougars didn’t let down their fans as they won the game 3 sets to 0 (scores of 25-10, 25-17, 28-26 respectively).
The Cougars started out the game with a dominant win in set 1.
In fact, the set wasn’t even close as SXU ran off with a fast 15-3 start in the start.
Roosevelt started to creep back, but SXU quickly shut them down and secured the win.
Set 2 was a bit more competitive as the two teams went back and forth throughout, but SXU went on a 5-0 run to shut down Roosevelt for the second straight time.
Set 3 was a war as Roosevelt refused to go out without a fight. The two teams stood tied at 26-26.
With it being anyone’s game, an attack error and a clutch kill by senior Kate Bontrager secured the 28-26 set win, and the match win.
Bontrager was essential in this game as she tallied up a team high 10 kills.
Friday, September 22 vs. Concordia University
It was the start of a two-day road trip for the Cougars and what better way to start a road trip then with a win vs. a conference rival.
The Cougars were able to beat Concordia in 3 sets (with scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-11 respectively).
The Cougars dominated Concordia on their home floor to make matters worse. In set 1, SXU was scoring in bunches, going on multiple runs to obtain victory.
Set 2 saw Concordia come out hot with a 6-2 lead early, but that was short-lived as SXU stormed back and took a 9-8 lead.
The two teams continued to trade leads until SXU went on 9-3 run that gave them the victory.
In the 3rd and final set of this matchup, saw SXU dominating from start to finish.
Once the Cougars got going in the beginning, they did not let up and the final score showed as the won thee set 25-11. Junior Helena Atton was the key here as she led the way with 11 kills.
Saturday, September 23 vs. Lourdes University
In their second away game of the week, the Cougars matched up Lourdes in a matchup that SXU won in 4 sets (with scores of 18-25, 27-25, 25-20 respectively).
This was SXU’s most competitive match of the week as both teams went at it from set 1 to set 4.
Thankfully, junior Rory Manion cane out to play as she was a pivotal reason for why the Cougars won.
Manion had a season high 16 kills and helped secure the victory for the Cougars in set 2 with two big time kills.
The women’s volleyball team is rolling on all cylinders as the win over Lourdes makes it their 5th straight.
