Why To Give Thanks This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Turkey — Kirk McKoy

After Halloween, many people jump straight into the holiday spirit and welcome Christmas a month early. It’s straight to “Santa’s Coming!”,  instead of acknowledging Thanksgiving. The holiday season is a time to get close to your family and give thanks.

The idea of giving thanks is a tradition, but give it meaning by sharing a dinner with your family and having a nice conversation.

Spending time with your family when you are on break are the few chances you have everyone together.

When we college students dorm or spend most of our time working, studying, and getting things done, we miss spending time with the family. We should take advantage of spending the holidays with our family.

Whether your family is large or small, every second counts. Instead of rushing the holiday season, let’s take it easy and enjoy the leaves falling and drinking hot cider.

Go and pick apples with your family to make pies. Then, help your family make the food for Thanksgiving – stuff the turkey, make the gravy. It’s the season of love and care for others.

We should give thanks for our friends and family and being able to get an education.

Thanksgiving should not be once a year but it should be every day to stop and realize how much we have been given. So call your family and friends every once and a while and tell them how much you appreciate them.

Giving thanks is important because you never know if we’ll have another day, we are not promised tomorrow.

Also, expressing gratitude will share how you feel and your family will know that you appreciate them. Don’t assume that people know – tell them, not once but constantly.

Take advantage of the holiday season to enjoy yourself and not stress about assignments and passing your classes. Take it easy and enjoy the change in the weather and the change in season.

Watch the change in the color of the trees, go for a walk before it starts to snow.

Life moves so fast and we don’t stop to make memories with our friends and family.

Take pictures and make albums so then you can show your children or family one day. Don’t stop living, don’t stop giving thanks.

Enjoy the little things and don’t expect everything to be perfect because it won’t.

Let go of anger and grudges forgive, and make amends. Life is short, don’t waste your time wallowing, but enjoy it with the people you love and tell them how much you care.

The importance of Thanksgiving is to remind yourself of all the good that is in your life. To remind you of everything that you love and everyone who has your back through the good and the bad.

Here are some things I am thankful for: my family, friends, pets, education, the roof over my head, the food that I’m feed, the clothes I was given.

Especially all things that I have in my life that not everyone has.

I give thanks for each of these each day and remind myself that even though I might be going through tough times, I have things that are good too.
