In case you have been living under a rock, the Chicago Cubs have finally clinched a World Series title for the first time in 108 years. Actor Bill Murray was in attendance numerous times throughout the series and some of things that he did just makes him even more lovable. With this being said, let’s take a look at what makes Bill Murray the greatest Cubs fan of all time.
Reason #1: Dedication to the Game and His Craft – The Evanston native and die-hard Cubs fan could be seen at just about every game during the NLCS and the World Series. During this time, he had some pretty iconic moments. One of them being his rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during Game 3 of the World Series. In true Murray fashion, he had to add a touch of comedy. He sang (or should I say spit) his heart out using a Daffy Duck voice and the crowd loved every minute of it. A few weeks ago, Murray also crashed a White House briefing donned in his Cubs apparel to answer a few questions regarding the team. When asked if he thinks the team will win, he of course responded with a comical answer. Never a dull moment when this guy is around.
Reason #2: His Big Heart – Murray also has a soft-side as well. A woman from Indiana went to Cleveland in hopes that she would be able to see the Cubs play Game 6 of the World Series. After being told that it was sold-out, Murray gave her a ticket to the game. Not only did she get to see the game, she got to sit next to the comedian. Talk about one lucky fan!
Reason #3: He’s Just Like You and Me – To top it all off, Murray’s look of pure joy after the Cubs won it all was priceless. He was feeling a roller coaster of emotions just like every Cubs fan and he was not afraid to show it. A GIF of his reaction quickly spread throughout the internet and people could not get enough of it. He even was seen sobbing on the field after the game and it was all caught on camera. Murray continued the celebration in the locker room with everyone and interviewed a few people like center fielder Dexter Fowler and Cubs’ president Theo Epstein. While interviewing Epstein for Fox Sports, Murray was given a champagne shower straight to the face by him and returned the favor to Epstein.
It is pretty evident that this comedy king has taken the crown for the greatest Cub fan of all time. What’s not to love about a person who exudes all of these qualities? Here’s to you Bill Murray!
