“The 1846 Lounge” – This name honors the history of Saint Xavier University and the Sister’s of Mercy. 1846 is the year that Saint Francis Xavier Academy was founded in downtown Chicago.

I think the lounge should just be named after a donor or important school figure, to me the naming of the space means little. The importance is that the students were provided with a new area to study and work. As well the goal should be to provide as many resources to the students as possible, even if it takes ridiculous names or corporate sponsorships just give us the resources we deserve.

“The McCallister Lounge”- I think it would be really nice to dub the new loung the McCallister Lounge in honor of Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin. The movie was shot in Chicago, the holiday season is coming up, he’s not actually dead–everything works out. It sounds catchy like: “Hey, the group study rooms are booked, why don’t we go down to the new McCallister Lounge?”. And then everyone could laugh about the time the Internet tried to kill Macaulay Culkin.

I have a radical idea for naming the student lounge by the library. I think we should let it remain nameless, officially, for a while until student slang for the lounge determines what it should be called. We should let the populace call it what it will until a popular name (albeit an appropriate one) arises and then let the name become official.

“The Craig Robinson Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Lounge” – This is the perfect name because Craig Robinson is an alumnus of Saint Xavier University. In addition, “Hot Tub Time Machine 2” is set for release in February 2015. Giving the naming rights of the lounge to Robinson and the movie will bolster the university’s image as a producer of stars and hopefully create a little revenue from Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

“Cougar Growl Lounge” – The mascot for Saint Xavier University is a cougar so it would make sense. A lot of the activities, clubs and organizations are named after the cougar mascot. Also, how cool would it be to say ‘hey I’m going to the Cougar Growl Lounge.’
