With the MLB Playoffs in full swing it got me thinking what month is the best month for sports? Is it when the weather starts to heat up and the baseball season begins, or is it when the temperature starts to drop and the NFL season kicks off? Today I’m going to be ranking each month based on how I feel about them when it comes to sports.

  1. February

This one may surprise you but realistically after the Super Bowl which is in early Feb. we are kind of stuck in the dark days of winter where we are all eager for spring to finally begin. Sure you can argue that it can be higher because of the NBA and NHL All-Star Games but if i’m being honest none of those events have been like they used to be. Depending on the year it may be higher because of the winter olympics starting but because it doesn’t happen every year I have to put February at the very bottom.

  1. August

As we get to the dog days of summer the only major sport really going on is MLB which if you are not a baseball fan this month can feel like an eternity. The NFL preseason does begin in Aug., but it just doesn’t feel the same as an actual regular season game.

  1. July

This is the first month of the year without the NBA or NHL, and with the NFL season still a few months away, July is pretty much similar to Aug. I know the biggest sporting event in the world takes place in July, the FIFA World Cup but just like the Olympics which also take place in July only happen every four years, so it is hard to put July higher for that exact reason.

  1. May

Although you have the NBA and NHL playoffs this is month two of three of the playoffs so the excitement of the playoffs tends to die down a bit before the late rounds begin.

  1. December

Final month of both the NFL and College football regular season before the playoffs so many games are crucial and intense to watch as teams try to make one last push for the playoffs. You also get the iconic NBA Christmas Day games that have been going on since 1947.

  1. November

If you are lucky you may get Game 7 of the World Series which is always a great watch. For CFB fans you get rivalry week in late Nov. with some historic matchups. Nov. also gives you the iconic NFL thanksgiving games that are always fun to watch.

  1. April

The first full month of baseball begins, everyone is hopeful that this may be the year for their team, you also have the beginning of the NBA and NHL playoffs. Towards the end of the month you also get the NFL draft as each fanbase hopes their team drafts their next cornerstone player. The March Madness spectacle also carries over into April with the Final Four, and for the fans of golf The Masters.

  1. June

NBA Finals, NHL Stanley Cup Final, after two long seasons a champion is finally crowned for each respective league. For the college sports fans this is also the time for the College World Series.

  1. January

The road to the Super Bowl begins with an intense month of the NFL playoffs, and if the NFL postseason wasn’t enough playoff action for you, you also get the College Football Playoff now bigger than ever with a 12-team playoff format rather than the original 4-team playoff.

  1. September

The long awaited NFL season returns as every team starts 0-0 with a chance to raise the Lombardi trophy come February. The race for a playoff spot in baseball comes down to the final month. CFB season reaches its first full month.

  1. March

March Madness, MLB Opening Day, final month for both the NBA and NHL. I mean March makes a good case to be number one. Everyone hopes the odds are finally in their favor to have the first ever perfect bracket as March Madness tips off. The historic MLB Opening Day that has every fanbase’s expectations high. Final month of the regular season for the NHL and NBA as teams hope they are still playing come playoff time in April.

  1. October

Oct. has to be the best month of them all, you have MLB playoffs all month long, you have the first full month of the NFL season, and both NBA and NHL seasons begin in Oct. And, if you are not a fan of any of those sports you also have the MLS playoffs, WNBA finals. You also have a high chance of getting a sports equinox in Oct., which is when all four major sports in the U.S have a game on that day.

At the end of the day it’s all about what sports you like. Everyone will likely have a different list of what months they prefer to watch. This was just what I believed and it wasn’t easy putting this list together but in the end I think I created a pretty great list.
