Saint Xavier University has partnered with the Kilter App for the month of March to promote the Miles for Meaning Challenge.
Posted on a mySXU announcement on Feb. 21, the event encourages “team participation among nonprofit organizations that turns everyday actions into ‘Miles for Meaning.”
For those looking to participate, the app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, under the title “Kilter.”
As stated in an email to the community from the Office of Alumni Relations on Feb. 25, “To make it an even playing field for smaller organizations like SXU to compete, Kilter limits each team to 100 participants.”
The event started on March 1, and will continue until the end of the month. Jeanmarie Gainer, the Director of University Advancement, stated that “The Miles for Meaning Challenge, open to only non-profit organizations, will allot $30,000 to the team that accumulates the most miles. Additionally, another $30,000 in smaller cash prizes will be distributed to teams with high mileage.”
Participants can gain miles as they do their day to day activities. Gainer stated that “There are no campus events planned. Just sign up and work out when it fits your schedule. Remember every step counts, so you don’t have to be a fitness buff to join.”
Although the winning school and other top schools will receive various amounts of cash prizes, that is not the only reason the SXU community has chosen to participate in this event. Gainer stated,“There are no campus events planned. Just sign up and work out when it fits your schedule. Remember every step counts, so you don’t have to be a fitness buff to join.”
She continued: “It is another way to continue bringing the community together.”
The event is open to all, regardless of their physical abilities, as “SXU is committed to the universal values of diversity, equity and inclusion,” as stated by Gainer.
“But regardless of whether we win any of the prizes, I hope everyone who participates has fun!” she said.
