Things change often in our lives, like our clothing style, hair colors, and even our likes and dislikes.
People are always trying something new with their hair, nails, and more recently, eyebrows.
On Instagram, I found some of, what I thought to be, the weirdest trends of this era. There are braided eyebrows, eyebrow wigs if you don’t have any hair, halo brows, and my favorite, clips for eyebrows.
Oh, it’s like we have a wig collection, but now for your brows. Do you remember a time where lashes were for your eyes? Now they put them on your nose. Yes, it looks like a chia pet growing out of your nostrils, “chachachachia”.
That, and people are starting to draw squiggly eyebrows and lips, which is strange. Sometimes the trends are a bit out of the box, which I find to be unnecessary.
Going into the fashion side of social media, we have thigh high uggs and different colored crocs now with fur inside, yes fur; as if crocs weren’t ugly already. It’s a wave of certain items everyone has to have, for example: the spur of airpods, black and white vans, or clothes with rose patches on them. It’s a kind of, “you have it, I want it” mentality. So if social media shows it, it appeals to a wide audience.
Wigs are used for a variety of reasons, and the positive side is the variety of hair colors and textures. It’s a great way to change your style and try something new. It’s also good for people who don’t want to bleach or dye their hair and it saves it from being burned. It’s a way of being spontaneous and adventurous with your hair color such as vibrant blue, pink, green and even neon colors.
I think it’s a new era where being weird is more acceptable and more common. Trends such as wigs and brows, people have invested time and money. Especially since most people spend their time on social media. Also, investing in online shopping, now that Instagram has an option to sell and buy. It seems more realistic than Instagram models with abs. It’s a new way to express oneself and it’s good. It’s more accepting and positive when people meet, and they do not have to worry about beauty standards.
Social media can be used to hurt or build people up, and these trends aren’t hurting anyone. It only hurts if you’re doing it for other people. If you want to try something new, let it be for you. Not for popularity, or to meet social media trends. Try a lace front if you don’t want to bleach and mess up your hair, it’s a great way to be spontaneous. Try different eyebrows if you feel like yours are not cool enough and doesn’t meet your expectations of personal style.
Even though a trend can be ugly sometimes, it’s not for the looks but for what it does. For example, uggs that have a thermal inside to keep your feet warm. So buy some crocs or uggs if you like your feet to be warm. Sometimes shoes can be ridiculous, but with Chicago weather going below zero and above average heat, I think it’s best to invest in these type of shoes.
It all comes down to what you like and what you’re willing to try. Social media should not govern what you like and shouldn’t like. Not by trends, by body image, nor beauty standards. It should be only if we like it and want to try it.
