Water Fountains At Saint Xavier University

Water Fountains — Richard B. Levine

In the Warde Academic Center, we have three filtered water stations. I feel that we need more around campus. The importance of having filtered water is to avoid drinking the lead and bacteria the unfiltered water has.

The water contains harmful chemicals that are bad for your body. It will help the environment, because when we have filtered water stations, we have students who come to refill their reusable water bottles. Mostly stainless steel bottles help with cutting down on the use of plastic.

They also help keep the water is cold. Since many of the old water fountains don’t have a filter, I just feel it would be really beneficial to the students and staff at Saint Xavier University to spread out more filtered water stations among different parts of the campus.

Water is very important to the body since we are made up of mostly water. And I feel if we applied more filtered water fountains then the intake of water at school would be higher. There’s just not enough filtered water at school.

Not everyone wants to buy a four dollar water bottle from the diner. That’s why many of the students bring their own water bottles from home.

The filtered water also helps to quench your thirst especially after using the Shannon Center. It helps our athletes to have fresh cold water.

It also helps our students after a long day of studying. There’s just so much to benefit from having a filtered water fountain at school.

Not many feel like it is such a drastic change, but it is very important to have freshwater on campus since unfiltered water may contain lead. We know for sure that the filtered water does not have any bacteria or harmful chemicals inside the water. But we know that it is freshwater and it also helps when the button that says plastic water bottle count goes up.

The benefit of using stainless steel is that manufacturers will see the low supply and demand of plastic water bottles and the uprising of stainless steel.

As human beings, we should be more aware of what we put into our bodies and the earth.

Plastic is not beneficial for the earth and the creatures in it. It benefits our earth and keeps the oceans clean of unnecessary plastic. Plastic that shouldn’t be in our oceans and pollutes the earth.

It’s not good when you walk down the street and see plastic bottles thrown on the ground.

It sure doesn’t help when our fish supply eat the plastic before being caught and sold.  We may not realize that it is affecting us, but it is. Plastic can never be fully decayed so there are particles that remain and we eat those particles when we eat our fish or drink our water.

It is called microplastic and it is never broken down, or disintegrate. It stays floating in the ocean or it gets caught on animals in the sea. Many animals are seen when they die with their stomachs open and bottle caps inside.

That means instead of eating real food the animals are eating plastic caps. It’s that dream we can pursue to clean up the oceans and give the animals a better home.
