Tuesday, October 27th
On this date, the Cougar girls faced off against Judson University, a team whom the fell to a month prior. Would the Cougars come out and avenge a loss? Set one kicked off, and the Cougar girls were off to a good start leading Judson 10-6.
Judson would push back, and the Cougars and Judson would be involved in a back and forward contest. Tied at 23-23, both teams were hungry for a win. While SXU was hungry, Judson must’ve been starving as a clutch kill propelled them to a 25-23 set victory.
Set two was much of the same story. SXU came out with a strong 5-1 lead early, but Judson put up a fight and came back. This set came down to the wire, but SXU faced another disappointing set loss at 22-25.
The third and final set saw another close one. Would the Cougars be the one to win and force another set? Despite strong play from Meghan Falsey, and Melanie Miller, the Cougars had to swallow another heartbreaking loss at 23-25.
The Cougars went on to lose the matchup as Judson won three sets to none.
Thursday, October 29th
Fresh off a loss, the Cougars looked to redeem themselves in a matchup against Trinity International University. One could see the chip on the Cougars’ shoulders from the last disappointing loss, as they came out with a major head of steam.
The Cougars went on a major 14-5 run, and never looked back. The Cougars were KILL-ing machines as they had 11 kills that lead them to a dominant 25-12 victory. The second set saw Trinity fire back with some strong play.
They came out to an early lead of 12-9. The Cougars would not be denied another victory as they came out with a major 16-2 run to close out the set, and close in on another set victory at 25-14. With two dominant set victories, the Cougars looked to bring home another win with another dominant set victory.
The Cougars would come out hot with a 22-12 lead that made it seem like they would breeze to another victory. But, Trinity would not go out without a fight as they went on a 6-0 run that put them just three points behind at 19-22.
Although Trinity fought back, the Cougars would not let this game slip away as the closed out the set with a win of 25-20, and a matchup victory winning three games to Trinity’s none.
Come out and support the Cougars’ Volleyball team as they go on to face Robert Morris University on Tuesday, November 3, and Cardinal Stretch University Thursday, November 5.
