Views of the Diner at Saint Xavier

Ten Dollar bill on a plate — Vitalii Marchenko

Do you ever feel this hole in your pocket from spending money at Saint Xavier’s diner? Oh, I thought it was just me!

All I hear is complaints that the food is overpriced in the diner. I one-hundred percent agree. I think it’s hard to worry about the prices of meals when you go to college. It adds to the load of financial issues we have to worry about.

I don’t agree that the school should have high prices on food when tuition is high enough.

We have to save as much money as we can. I find it ridiculous to pull out a five-dollar bill to buy an orange juice that I can get for $1.25 at Jewel Osco down the street. We’re broke college students trying to buy our books and pay tuition.

The students and I have had enough of the overpriced water bottles and chicken wraps. I think it should be more affordable for students to eat when we are charged for every little thing.

You know the air you’re breathing right now is included in your tuition. So far this month, I’ve spent fifty-dollars on food and drinks, which I regret entirely since Mcdonalds created the app.

It’s hard to budget when you are a college student and inflation has hit your school. To know your five-dollar bill in the eyes of the cashier is like a meaningless penny. Goodluck trying to add fries to that meal; it’s an extra $2.00. It’s hard to wait an hour in-between classes and not eat because of the expensive food the school sells.

So many students have no choice, but to buy what’s in the diner. It’s more of making sure you got at least a twenty in your pocket everyday to guarantee a meal. Yes, I bring my own lunch but when you’re constantly in the books your fuel burns away quickly. I’m burning more calories writing this essay than working out at the Shannon Center.

Did I mention the Shannon Center is included in your tuition too? I just believe the school should lower their prices. Tuition alone is threw the roof. I hope one day I can walk into the diner and pay at least two-dollars for my orange juice rather than four. The price of candy is just ridiculous: it’s $4.25 for a little bag of Swedish Fish or Life Saviors. Right now, I need to go stock up on food from Jewel, because I’m going to end up spending another thousand-dollars on food.

Which the way my bank account is set up isn’t going to help me. I know it will break my bank and put me in debt. All of these food charges have been sent to credit. The other day I went through my purse and found twenty receipts and I’m not exaggerating.

We just started school a couple weeks ago and I’m already finding receipts everywhere. By the end of this year I’m sure I will spend at least three-thousand dollars on food in the diner, not including tuition, fees, or books.  #LowerPricesInTheDiner2018
