I guess playing the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action “Snow White” movie really resonated with Gal Gadot.
Not only did Gal Gadot try to poison and kill Snow White’s character while acting as the Evil Queen, she also served in the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) and terrorized indigenous Palestinians.
The live-action “Snow White” movie, directed by Marc Webb, is set to be released on March 21, 2025, and stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as The Evil Queen.
The Boycott, Divestments, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement is calling for the movie to be boycotted as to not support Gadot.
The BDS Movement, as stated on their website, is a “ Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality.
BDS upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.”
Gadot, famous for playing Wonder Woman from 2016 to 2023, served in the IOF as a “fitness instructor” as part of her mandatory two-year service; nonetheless, she still served as part of a genocidal army whose purpose is to terrorize, kill, and displace Palestinians.
Gadot has never shied away from talking about her experience serving in the IOF, and often cites her time working with them as a key factor in helping her land roles in “Wonder Woman” and the “Fast and Furious” franchise.
An article in Newsweek from Nov. 2023 states, “Gadot credits her military experience with landing her first Hollywood role in the 2009 action film Fast & Furious, in which she performed all her own stunts, as well as in the franchise’s sequels, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6.”
After the Oct. 7 surprise attacks, Gadot was quick to show her support for Israel and the occupation forces by posting on her Instagram “I Stand With Israel.” To avoid backlash for her post, Gadot turned off the comments.
Despite muting her comments, Gadot stood no chance against people talking about her on X (formerly known as Twitter); according to the New Arab, one user (@damuselette) wrote, “Gal Gadot being the evil queen, killing an underage child (snow white) it’s so Zionist of her.”
Another user by username of (@vivelacomtesse) wrote, “I’m surprised people are saying Gal Gadot is miscast as The Evil Queen I mean a villain who isn’t afraid to slaughter [innocents] because she wants something that isn’t rightfully hers and wants to rule a land she has no legitimate claim too. Sounds [like] perfect casting to me.”
To add to the irony of the situation, Zegler, who plays the protagonist of Snow White, is pro-Palestinian.
When promoting the teaser trailer for the new movie, Zegler tweeted, “Love you all so much! Thank you for the love and for the 120m views on our trailer in just 24 hours! What a whirlwind.”
In a follow-up post, she shared, “And always remember: Free Palestine.”
According to the article by the New Arab, Zegler supporting Palestinian liberation is not something new, as the actress has notably spoken up about the cause in 2021 during the Israeli aggressions on Palestine.
It must be noted that the BDS Movement, along with the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) nonprofit organization, are also calling for the boycott of Disney as a whole due to their support for Israel.
In Oct. 2023, Disney donated over $2 million to a “humanitarian aid organization” called the Magen David Adom, which actually supports the IOF and is mandated by Israel.
As stated by the Magen David Adom on their official website, the MDA’s goal is to “be an auxiliary service to the IDF medical forces in wartime.”
The call for boycotting Disney is not something new, however. Marvel Studios, which Disney owns, have been facing backlash regarding their upcoming 2025 movie, “Captain America: New World Order,” featuring an Israeli Mossad Agent as a superhero called Sabra.
Disney and Marvel must be boycotted. As tempting as it might be to watch their movies and engage in all of the fun things they may offer, it’s never worth it to support and stand by those who willingly and unabashedly support genocide.
The road to liberation is tough and long, but we must stay principled and moraled.
