burger-king-logoIn this day in age, it seems that just about any of your two favorite foods get put together, and create either a hit or miss item. Burger King is at it again, but this time they decided to take it to the next level and combine Cheetos and their chicken fries. With all of the hype surrounding the questionable product, I decided to give them a try. Here is my review of the Cheetos chicken fries.

First off, I was kind of on the fence about trying the chicken fries. It is definitely an unlikely pairing of food items, but that is what everyone said about the company’s summer release of the “Mac and Cheetos”. That item became a crowd favorite for those who were brave enough to try it. Ultimately, curiosity got the best of me and I decided to try the chicken fries out.

I guess you can say that the packaging of the product was “cute”, with Chester the Cheetah’s face on the box and cheetah spots scattered on there as well. I opened the box and I immediately noticed two things: the smell and color. As soon as I had opened the box, the smell hit me in the face, but it’s hard to describe exactly what it smelled like. The smell obviously was not good, and made me question if I should even eat the product. As for color, they were a dark, orange-like color, which is kind of what I expected given that it involves Cheetos.

It was now time for the moment of truth. I took the first bite, and I was confused and surprised at the same time. It did not have the cheesy flavor that I was expecting, which was a good and bad thing. I was afraid that there was going to be an overpowering taste of cheese, but I was very wrong. There was not a trace of cheese flavor in the fries. I think it would have been better if they actually added the cheese flavor to the fries since they were supposed to have that in it. To me, these chicken fries tasted like any plain chicken fries that you would get from any fast food chain.

Since the fries had little flavor, I decided to dip them in barbeque sauce. The restaurant offers other sauces that you can choose from (honey mustard, ketchup, etc.), but barbeque was the safest, and my personal favorite, choice. I would highly recommend using a sauce, unless you want to eat bland chicken.

Overall, I would give the Cheetos Chicken Fries a 4 out of 10. The smell and lack of flavor is what led me to give this score and in general; they ended up being not as great as people were making them up to be. To save money and yourself, this is something that you can skip.
