Time Travel Back to Fan Expo

One of the most inspiring franchises is “Back to the Future” because it brought fans all around the world together.

The first “Back to the Future ” film is about two protagonists by the name of Doctor (Doc) Emmet Brown and Marty McFly, respectively played by Chrisopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. Doc Brown is a scientist that created a time machine. As Doc Brown’s science experiment is almost compromised, Marty accidentally time travels to the 1950’s and must find his way home.

The first installment of “Back to the Future” was released on July 3, 1985. While in theaters, the movie became a smashing hit and made $380 million. 

When the second movie came out, we saw the story of Doc and Marty continue as they travel to the future to save Marty’s future son by changing the McFly’s family future when the wrong technology comes into the hands of the antagonist Biff.

Back to the Future Part II ” was released in theaters in 1989 and received $332 million with fans eager to see the relationship between the two main characters evolve as they go through time.

In the final chapter of the franchise, it is discovered that Doc is happily living life in 1885. However, in the present, Marty discovers Doc’s grave. This inspires him to return to the past in order to save Doc from impending doom.

The third film only made $245 million, a significantly lower sum than the other two films.

All three films from this franchise created a cultural legacy that people to this day watch.

Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd were seen at New York Comic Con in 2022, their first public appearance together in many years. During the Comic Con, they both appeared on stage to answer questions about the time spent on set.

Soon after, the pair released a limited run of accessories and merchandise for the fans to wear and show their love for the franchise.

Furthermore, conventions all around the world in places such as Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago are now seeing Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Other celebrities such as Lea Thompson (Marty’s mother in the films) and Tom Wilson (the franchise’s bully, Biff) are making appearances.

At each convention, a guest can potentially take a photo with these individuals, have a photo autographed, or even purchase a bobblehead of their favorite characters in the series.

The prices and services offered at each convention vary, but photo ops for Fox and Lloyd are typically $350. For all four celebrity guests the going rate for a photo is $500.

Conventions have given a chance for generations to connect from pop culture today to what our parents watched.

Although these films came out more than thirty years ago, they are still watched and loved by modern audiences. The movie franchise has been referenced in over forty different films including “Avengers 4: Endgame”, “Ready Player One”,“The Lego Movie” and “Big Hero 6”.

As these films and conventions continue to excite fans, the “Back to the Future” legacy will continue to change lives.
