Three WrestleMania Matches to Look Out For

WrestleMania is now just days away which makes it the perfect time to take a look at some of the biggest matches on the card.

The thirty-ninth edition of World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) annual WrestleMania will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on April 1 and 2. With most of the matches that will take place over the span of both nights being set, it is shaping up to be memorable.

Here are three matches to look out for:

John Cena vs. Austin Theory – WWE United States Championship match

It simply cannot be WrestleMania without John Cena. The WWE-Superstar- turned-actor made his return to the company on March 6, in Boston, Massachusetts. Before he could get a chance to speak to his hometown crowd, Theory would interrupt the hero’s welcome and challenge the sixteen-time world champion.

Cena would initially respond with a flat-out “no,” stating that the young Superstar is “not ready” for the attention that facing him would bring.

However, Cena has never been known to back down from a fight. Theory knows this and questioned whether the legend, whose catchphrase is “Never Give Up” was “scared.” Cena would reluctantly accept the challenge with a warning for Theory: be careful what you wish for.

With Cena’s schedule becoming tighter every year, some wonder if this could be his last match in the WWE. The answer is unclear, however the possibility of seeing the legend put the egotistical rookie in his place is enough reason to keep an eye on this match.

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens vs. The Usos – WWE Undisputed Tag-Team Championship match

In a match that has been months in the making, The Usos will defend their tag-team championships against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

After distancing himself from The Bloodline, Zayn found himself on his own against his former “family” of the Usos, Solo Sikoa, and Roman Reigns.

For a while, it seemed as if Jey Uso had his back. This past January at the Royal Rumble, Zayn finally fought back after months of being manipulated by Reigns, sending a message by slamming a chair to his back in front of the rest of the Bloodline members. Despite the fact that Zayn turned on him and his family, Jey would refuse to join in on the attack against him, instead choosing to walk away.

For weeks, the Bloodline failed to get a hold of Jey until March 6, when he would walk in from the crowd and distract his brother Jimmy Uso, giving Zayn the victory.

It seemed like Jey had made his decision clear, choosing Zayn over his family. That is until he’d betray Zayn just moments later, taking him down with a superkick and spurring on an attack from the Usos and Sikoa.

With the door for a reunion between Zayn and Jey Uso being shut, another one would soon reopen. After weeks of Cody Rhodes trying to reignite their friendship, Owens would finally come to the aid of Zayn. The two friends, whose friendship goes back almost fifteen years, will finally get the chance to fight the Usos and possibly end their reign of over 600 days as champions.

Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns – Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match

The stakes are high with this match. In one corner we have ”The American Nightmare,” Cody Rhodes, and in the other, “The Tribal Chief,” Roman Reigns.

Reigns has held the world championship for over 935 days, making him the sixth longest champion in WWE history. He has gained wins over big names including Cena, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio and many more. With the dominance shown during this reign of terror, the question remains whether the Head of the Table’s reign will reach the 1,000 day mark.

After his surprise return to the WWE at last year’s WrestleMania, most fans picked Rhodes as most likely to dethrone Reigns. With him winning the 2023 Royal Rumble match, guaranteeing him a shot at the champion at WrestleMania, it seems more likely than ever.

Rhodes is the younger brother of Dustin Rhodes, formerly known as Goldust, and the son of the late-great Dusty Rhodes. Though both were able to have remarkable careers in pro wrestling, neither were able to capture the WWE Championship. For Rhodes, this is a chance to reach an accolade that has avoided the Rhodes family for generations.

The victory could also bring an end to the seven-year journey in which Rhodes bet on himself, leaving WWE in 2016 to make a name for himself outside the company while also kickstarting the rival All Elite Wrestling (AEW) promotion. With a win at WrestleMania, he could finally reach the top of the ranks in the WWE.
