On September 15 and 16, the Saint Xavier Women’s golf team participated in the Deer Park Classic out in Oglesby, Ill. This was the first time all season that the team played two consecutive tournaments with only a day of rest in between.
Even with minimal time off, the Cougars still managed a fairly impressive third place finish out of the five teams that participated. They had a total of 719 points and finished +151 over par.
Sophomore Taylor Thompson, as per usual, led the way for the ladies. The sophomore came in at number two overall in the individual standings with 158 points. Only four points separated Thompson and Cardinal Stritch golfer, Perle Pondepeyre, who finished in first place.
Adding on for the Cougars were freshmen Hunter Schultz and Hannah Cruz. Schultz placed eighth and was only 24 over par. Cruz was right behind in ninth with 170 points and +28 to par.
Both women, along with fellow freshman Marissa Hohman are definitely showing promise as the season progresses. Not only are they proving themselves to the rest of the Saint Xavier sports community, but also to the NAIA as they try to make their team a force to be reckoned with.
The Cougars will be right back at it again on September 22 as they compete in the Loyola University Fall Invitational tournament out in Flossmoor, Ill.
