Back on Aug. 29, the women’s golf team competed in their first tournament of the year, the Carthage Tournament on the Border, up in Bristol, Wisconsin.
Over the course of the two-day tournament, St. Xavier placed fourth overall with a total of 668 points and +92 par.
Sophomore standout Taylor Thompson continued her dominance from last year and blew the competition away. Thompson placed second on her first day of action and then took the number one spot on day two.
Cougar freshmen Hannah Cruz and Hunter Schultz tied for 15th place over the span of the two-day tournament. Both girls racked up a total number of 168 points combined.
And last but not least, sophomore Katie Reno finished in a tie for 44th place with rival golfer Rachel Herzberger.
Fast forward two weeks later, and Thompson was at it again, winning her second straight individual title at the Battle at Blackthorn Tournament last Friday.
The victory didn’t come easy for her; Thompson was tied in first place until she won a sudden death playoff to give her the edge over her competition. Her scores for Friday and Saturday were 75 and 74, respectively.
Up next for St. Xavier was Hunter Schultz who came in at number 16th overall in the field of 50 golfers. She had a final score of 168 over the course of the two days.
There were two ties that the Cougars found themselves in the middle of; Cruz tied for 19th place and Reno for 36th.
And last but not least, Marissa Hohman came in at 49 with 241 points. For the two-day tournament, the St. Xavier Women’s Golf team placed fifth out of nine with a total score of 681.
Up next, the Cougars attended the Deer Park Classic on Monday in Oglesby, Illinois. That event will be hosted by Cardinal Stritch University (Wisconsin).
