It has been another crazy week in Chicago sports with the Chicago Bulls, Blackhawks, and Bears all having exciting games.
In the football world, the Chicago Bears played the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Bears won the game 41-9.
The Bears are now 5-3 on the year, which puts them at 1st place in the NFC North. They will play the Detroit Lions next week at Soldier Field at 12:00.
In the baseball world, both the White Sox and Cubs said goodbye to some players, but signed even more this week.
On the South Side, the White Sox signed pitcher Manny Banuelos and extended the contract of relief pitcher Nate Jones.
The Sox also released pitcher James Shields from his contract. Shields was acquired by the Sox back in 2016 for over $16 million but has been very lackluster during his two years in Chicago.
On the North Side, the Cubs extended the contract of starting pitcher Cole Hamels and traded pitcher Drew Smyly.
Hamels was acquired by the Cubs in the middle of last season and proved to be a very effective pitcher. He finished the year with a 4-3 record and an earned run average (ERA) of 2.36, placing him among the best on the roster.
Smyly did not pitch a single inning for the Cubs this year after undergoing a season-ending Tommy John surgery earlier in the year.
Both the White Sox and the Cubs have the ability to start signing free agents this week and with a whole lot of star players on the market, both teams are looking to sign some great players to their rosters.
In the college football world, the Northwestern Wildcats lost to the #4 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday.
The Wildcats are now 5-4 on the year, which puts them at 1st in the Big 10 West.
The Wildcats play the Iowa Hawkeyes next Saturday in Iowa City.
In the basketball world, the Chicago Bulls played four times this week.
On Monday, the Bulls played the Golden State Warriors at the United Center. The Bulls were embarrassed by the Warriors and lost 124-149. The Bulls allowed them to score 92 points in the first half alone and the second half was not much better.
They looked to rebound on Halloween night against the Denver Nuggets in Chicago, but lost 107-108 in an overtime heartbreaker.
The Bulls then played the Indiana Pacers at the United Center. They lost 105-107 in a very close game.
The team wrapped up the week by playing the Houston Rockets. The Bulls lost 88-96. Chicago is now 2-8 this year.
In the hockey world, the Chicago Blackhawks played three times this week. On Wednesday, the Blackhawks traveled to Vancouver to play the Vancouver Canucks and lost 2-4. The Blackhawks then traveled to Edmonton to play the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday and lost 0-4.
They wrapped up the week by playing the Calgary Flames in Calgary. The Blackhawks lost 3-5. Chicago is now 6-6-3 this year, which puts them at 6th place in the NHL Central.
It has been another wild week in Chicago.
With the Blackhawks and Bulls trying to rebound from their bad starts, the Bears looking like playoff contenders, and the Cubs and White Sox looking to revamp their rosters, winter is looking like a very interesting time to be a sports fan.
