It has been another wild week in Chicago sports with the football season continuing to ramp up and the basketball and hockey season just getting started.

In the football world, the Chicago Bears played the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Bears lost that game 31-38 after Bears wide receiver Kevin White was one yard short of a touchdown on the final play.

The Bears are now 3-3, which is good enough for 3rd in the NFC North. The Bears play the New York Jets next Sunday at 12:00 at Soldier Field.

In the baseball world, it has been pretty quiet in Chicago, mostly because both teams are not in the playoffs.

However, the Chicago Cubs are still trying to make moves. The Cubs hired a new hitting coach, Anthony Iapoce, this week. Iapoce was the hitting coach for the Texas Rangers from 2016 until 2018.

Under his guidance, the Rangers were among the top ten hitting teams in baseball, so the Cubs are hoping that some of that magic will follow him to the north side.

In the college football world, the Northwestern Wildcats played the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday.

The Wildcats beat the Scarlet Knights 18-15. Northwestern is now 4-3 on the year, which is good enough for first place in the Big 10 West. The Wildcats travel to Madison, Wisconsin next week to play the Wisconsin Badgers.

In the soccer world, the Chicago Fire played Atlanta United on Sunday and lost 1-2.

The Fire are now 8-7-18, which puts them at 10th place in the MLS Eastern Conference. Chicago plays one more game this year, next Sunday in Washington D.C. against D.C. United.

In the basketball world, the Chicago Bulls kicked off their season on Thursday in a losing effort against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls lost that game 108-127 despite a 30 point game from Zach LaVine.

The Bulls then had to regroup for their next game against the Detroit Pistons. In Chicago’s first home game of the year, the Bulls lost to the Pistons 116-118. The Bulls are now 0-2, which puts them at 4th in the NBA Central Division.

The Bulls play the Charlotte Hornets twice next week before finishing the week by playing the Atlanta Hawks.

In the hockey world, the Chicago Blackhawks played three times this week. The Blackhawks first played on Thursday, when they welcomed the Arizona Coyotes to the United Center.

Chicago finally got star goalie Corey Crawford back for this game and optimism was at a high. However, those hopes were dashed as the Coyotes beat the Blackhawks 4-1.

It might be awhile before Crawford is back to full strength, so these results may be common for the next few games.

Speaking of the next few games, the Blackhawks played the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday and Sunday. Chicago beat the Blue Jackets 4-1 in Columbus.

Chicago then traveled back to the United Center and lost to the Lightning 3-6.

The Blackhawks are now 4-2-2, which puts them at 4th place in the NHL Central Division. Chicago has experienced yet another wild week in the sports world.

With basketball and hockey just starting, it’s set to be another very exciting Autumn in Chicago.
