This Week In Chicago Sports

It was another wild and crazy week in Chicago sports this past week.

There’s plenty of events that took place, starting first in the world of baseball.

For the Chicago Cubs, their long off-season began this week with some bad news. Star third baseman Kris Bryant turned down a multiyear deal worth around $200 million. Bryant does not become a free agent until 2021, so he has three years to make a new deal with the Cubs.

If he does not, then any team in the league can make him an offer. In another piece of Cubs news, hitting coach Chili Davis was fired.

The Cubs hitting was lackluster at best at some points during the year, so his firing may have been because of that. The Cubs are hoping that getting a new hitting coach will change things up a bit.

In the football world, the Chicago Bears played the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The Bears lost the game 28-31 in overtime. Chicago had a chance to win the game, but they missed a field goal that would have put the game away.

The Bears are now 3-2, good enough for 2nd place in the NFC North. The Bears now must prepare to face the New England Patriots next Sunday at 12:00 PM at Soldier Field.

In the college football world, the Northwestern Wildcats, who play on the north side of Chicago, defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers 34-31 on Saturday.

The Wildcats improved to 3-3 and now prepared for their game next week against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

In the basketball world, the Chicago Bulls wrapped up their preseason schedule this week.

The Bulls went 2-3 in the preseason, defeating the New Orleans Pelicans and Indiana Pacers, but losing to the Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, and Denver Nuggets.

The Bulls start their regular season schedule on Thursday when they play the Philadelphia 76ers in Philadelphia. Chicago then play the Detroit Pistons on Saturday at the United Center.

In the hockey world, the Chicago Blackhawks played twice this week. Their first game was against the Minnesota Wild in Minneapolis. The Blackhawks lost that game 3-4 in overtime.

Blackhawks star Alex DeBrincat scored twice, but the rest of the team could not keep up with Minnesota Wild star Jason Zucker, who scored twice including the game winning goal in overtime.

The Blackhawks then traveled back to Chicago to play the St. Louis Blues. Chicago won the game 4-3 in overtime.

Chicago was lead by Alex DeBrincat, who scored 2 goals, including the game winner.

The Blackhawks are now 3-0-2 this year, good enough for 2nd place in the NHL Central Division.

With the football season in high gear and basketball and hockey just ramping up, it is a great time to be a sports fan in Chicago.
