It has been a wild week in Chicago sports, despite the baseball season being finished.

Speaking of baseball, the Chicago Cubs finished their season this week in a NL Wildcard defeat to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday October 2nd.

The Rockies started off the game with a sacrifice fly to put them up 1-0, which stayed that way until the 8th inning, when Javier Baez hit a double and drove in a run to tie it up 1-1.

After 5 more innings, the Rockies broke the tie in the top of the thirteenth when Tony Wolters hit a single and drove in a run to make it 2-1.

Rockies pitcher Scott Oberg struck out the side in the bottom of the inning and ended the game, giving the Rockies a 2-1 victory and eliminating the Chicago Cubs from the playoffs.

The Cubs now face a very interesting offseason with plenty of questions about what they will do.

In the football world, the Chicago Bears did not play this week. They do play the Miami Dolphins on Sunday October 14th in Miami.

The Bears are riding high after quarterback Mitchell Trubisky threw 6 touchdowns in a winning effort against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.

On the defensive side of things, linebacker Khalil Mack was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month.

The Chicago Fire played one game this week, a losing effort against D.C. United. The Fire play two more times this season, once on October 21st against Atlanta United and once more on October 28th against D.C. United.

The Chicago Bulls continued their preseason games this week, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks 82-116 on Wednesday.

The Bulls play three more preseason games, against the Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, and Denver Nuggets, before starting their season on October 18th against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Chicago Blackhawks finally kicked off their regular season this week, playing three times. The Blackhawks kicked off the season in Ottawa against the Ottawa Senators. Both teams played extremely hard and ultimately the Blackhawks won in overtime 4-3.

The Blackhawks then traveled to St. Louis and defeated them 5-4 in overtime, with Jonathan Toews providing the blunt of the scoring for the Blackhawks, scoring three time.

The Blackhawks then played their first home game of the year against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs won that game 7-6. Despite Patrick Kane scoring twice, the Blackhawks couldn’t keep up with Maple Leafs players John Tavares and Auston Matthews, who scored three goals and two goals respectively.

Chicago next plays on October 11th against the Minnesota Wild in Minneapolis.

With the baseball season finally over, the football season kicking into high gear, and the basketball & hockey seasons just getting started, it is an exciting time to be a sports fan in Chicago.
