Chicago is considered a major city when it comes to sports teams. In fact, Chicago has six major sports teams.
Two baseball teams (Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs), one basketball team (Chicago Bulls), one hockey team (Chicago Blackhawks), one soccer team (Chicago Fire), and one football team (Chicago Bears).
The Blackhawks and the Bulls prepare for the fast-approaching start of preseason, while the other four teams, the White Sox, the Cubs, the Bears, and the Fire, are playing as of this week. These four teams have plenty to talk about.
The Chicago White Sox have gone 3-4 in the past week, giving them an overall season record of 59-90 and ultimately eliminating them from the playoffs.
On the north side of Chicago, the Chicago Cubs have gone 4-3 in the past week, giving them an overall season record of 87-62, good enough for first place in their division.
However, the Cubs are in a tight division race against the Milwaukee Brewers, who are currently 85-65, and the St. Louis Cardinals, who are currently 82-68.
With the Brewers only being behind the Cubs in the division by only 2.5 games and the Cardinals being behind in the division by 5.5 games, there is very little room for error for the Chicago Cubs if they want to make the playoffs this year.
As for the Chicago Fire, they went 1-0 this week, defeating Orlando City Soccer Club.
The Fire are currently in second to last place in the MLS Eastern Conference with 27 points and a record of seven wins, six draws, and fifteen losses.
The Fire are not out of playoff contention just yet, but it would require them to win out and almost every other team above them in the standings to lose in order for them to make the playoffs.
The Chicago Bears have had a very interesting week.
Fresh off of losing a heartbreaking game to the Green Bay Packers, the Bears have been rebuilding and preparing for their Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field.
After this week, they travel to Phoenix, Arizona to play the Arizona Cardinals on September 23rd.
As for the Chicago Bulls, their preseason begins on September 30th, when they play the New Orleans Pelicans in Chicago.
Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks are preparing to play their first preseason games without star goaltender Corey Crawford.
Crawford, who has not played since November 2017 due to vertigo-like symptoms and concussions, has returned to the ice for practice, but is not ready to play in actual games yet.
The Blackhawks kick off their preseason schedule on September 18th against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus.
Chicago sports has had its up and down moments over the past week, but it continues to be a very intriguing watch.
