Who’s the ghost we love the most? Starts with a “B” and ends with a juice!
That’s right, folks. Beetlejuice may be back in (live) action after almost 30 years.
A week or two ago on Facebook, Beetlejuice was trending. Of course I couldn’t resist seeing why. As it turns out, there may finally be a sequel to the 1988 film about the not-so-dearly departed bio-exorcist.
In the early 1990’s, we almost got a sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. However, we all (very luckily I might add) dodged that lei-laden, tidal wave riding bullet.
According to rollingstone.com, Michael Keaton and Tim Burton have been talking about finally making a sequel. It seems as though Keaton and Burton are both in for this project.
Winona Ryder also sounded excited about a potential sequel (although she says she has been sworn to secrecy about anything that might be happening).
Now it looks as though things are finally starting to be set in motion, and I have to be honest. I’m pretty psyched.
I remember watching the original film when I was little, and I re-watched it this past weekend. I think I might have loved it even more than before.
I am a big fan of most of Tim Burton’s work, and I do have faith in him to deliver a second film in the franchise (but this time without the luau, I hope).
I am very excited to catch up on what the Deetz family has been doing for the past 26 years, and I’m even happier to see what has happened to Beetlejuice.
The last we saw of him, he had a rather unfortunate run-in with a headhunter. But what happened after that?
Yes, I know that there was an animated TV show from 1989-1992, but I want more of Keaton’s rendition.
I am also a bit hesitant (just slightly). I’ve seen more than one franchise get dragged into the ground by a bad sequel, and I really don’t want to see that happen to Beetlejuice.
I also want to qualify something that I said earlier. I am a big fan of MOST of Tim Burton’s films. There are some exceptions.
I did not like Mars Attacks! whatsoever, and I thought Dark Shadows was okay at best.
I don’t want Beetlejuice to have Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter in it. It’s nothing against them, but I feel like they have a tendency of becoming the center of attention in any of Burton’s films that they star in.
Overall, I’m optimistic and excited about this potential film, but if I hold my breath waiting for it to happen well, I may get to meet Beetlejuice in the underworld for myself.
