The Weeknd’s Halftime Show: a Meme, Bandages and Shook Fans

Every year, the Super Bowl commemorates huge artists in the industry during the iconic Pepsi halftime show. To Shakira and JLO’s joint performance, Coldplay, Paul McCartney, and Lady Gaga, the list goes on.

This is usually the time when the anti-sports fanatics come in and enjoy fifteen minutes of live entertainment, while sports fanatics view this time as a break from the game.

This year, “The Weeknd” brought in his funky, trance, and pop aura to the Super Bowl LV halftime show. It all began with him sitting in a car looking out into the distance with some sunglasses on. His red leather jacket stood out from everything that seemed to have been going on around him.

A “church choir” is what kicked his performance off, with a strong chapel theme central throughout it all. He raised his arms up all while the lights shined on him, which seemed “godly.”

The most popular songs that he is known for are “Starboy”,”Blinding Lights”, and “The Hills.” All of his current mainstream songs were sung during the show.

The performance of “Can’t Feel My Face” captivated his audience and quickly became a meme on social media right after the performance ended. The Weeknd embodied disorientation while he was walking through a maze of lit up mirrors. By crashing into his backup dancers, putting his entire face against the camera, and finally being able to get himself out of this anxious setting.

He quickly transitioned from his disoriented state to going back on stage and getting back into the groove of things by performing “I Feel It Coming.”

Then kept the groovy vibes going with his performance of “Save Your Tears” that has gained The Weeknd an immense amount of popularity. He startled fans with his “new look” in the music video, by teasing fans about possible facial surgery that completely changed his appearance.

Events leading up to the release of the video, The Weeknd was hinting towards facial alterations like a bruised nose, swollen eyes, etc. He was spotted with facial bandages at the AMA’s which kept fans wondering if he truly altered his face or if it was all just a publicity stunt. He started this saga right after the release of his album “After Hours.”

He kept this as an essential part in his Super Bowl performance. Which was highly expected if any of you have kept up with him throughout his journey. His backup dancers all had facial bandages on accompanied by their masks.

He ended his Super Bowl performance with the highly anticipated song of 2020, “Blinding Lights” that made everyone around the world partake in a dancing “Tik Tok” trend. This song made The Weeknd skyrocket in the music industry as if he was not up there already.

He was quite literally blinded by the lights while singing it on the football field, lights were flashing all throughout the sides of the stadium which was a nice touch to the performance. The Weeknd has made his presence known in the industry and delivers what suits him.
