Ever since Karoline Leavitt assumed her role as a main spokesperson for the Trump regime last year, the American people have seldom received a straightforward answer to countless questions reporters have asked during White House press briefings, particularly ones that challenge her or Trump’s rhetoric or actions.
Rather than giving thoughtful responses that directly relate to reporters’ questions or the topic at hand, Leavitt will frequently twist her answers to correlate with one of a select few recycled right-wing talking points.
A recent example of this is a statement Leavitt gave during a Jan. 26 White House briefing regarding the Jan. 24 shooting of Alex Pretti by a still-unidentified ICE officer. Leavitt, naturally, would not condemn the ICE officers involved in the shooting of Pretti directly, but did say that “nobody in the White House, including President Trump, wants to see people get hurt or killed in America’s streets. This includes Renee Good [and] Alex Pretti.”
However, she immediately likened the state-sanctioned violence committed against Good and Pretti to what she calls the “many Americans who have been victimized at the hands of illegal alien criminals.”
Such violent acts committed by undocumented migrants are, of course, few and far between and have no correlation to the slaughter of Good and Pretti–both American citizens–but Leavitt sure found a way to squeeze it into a statement regarding them.
One quintessential quality of Leavitt’s contortionist act, though, is her constant utilization of reporter questions to militantly, tangentially brown-nose Trump–a prime example of this being during her Dec. 11 briefing.
Leavitt responded to a reporter inquiring about the Trump administration’s plan to unite the two parties involved in the Gaza war with an uncomfortably-fawning spiel about “what a success it is that ten months into [Trump’s] administration, [the reporter was] asking her about a peace plan in Gaza,” pounding it into the heads of all those listening that this was “only” possible because of Trump’s leadership.
Leavitt not only had already opened the briefing praising Trump, but had done so at numerous points throughout it. The bootlicking is constant, and it is cancer to the ears.
Leavitt has clearly proven to be docile and enthusiastically obedient under Trump’s thumb; however, she does not shy away from wrathful retorts toward journalists she feels are testing her or the president.
There are too many instances to count, one of them being on Jan. 15 when Leavitt snapped at The Hill’s White House columnist Niall Stanage, an older gentleman, calling him a “left-wing hack” who “doesn’t even deserve to sit” in the White House briefing room (so much for the conservative value of respecting your elders!) after Stanage referred to the killing of Renee Good as “reckless” and “unjustifiabl[e]”–a comment which, by the way, came only after Leavitt questioned Stanage about why he personally believed Renee Good was shot.
She also blew up during a Nov. 20 White House briefing at a reporter who challenged Leavitt regarding the hypocrisy of Trump and Vice President JD Vance to condemn the “other side” for “inciting political violence” when Trump himself called for the deaths of the Democrat Representatives who urged all members of the U.S. Military and Intelligence to refuse illegal orders.
Leavitt angrily chastised the woman who brought this up, arguing that the lawmakers, all but one of which were former military servicemen and women, were “suggesting” that military personnel should disobey “lawful orders” from Trump, when the lawmakers only advised that military and intelligence members not follow “illegal” orders that “violate the law or our Constitution.”
One thing is clear–this woman, no matter how utterly ridiculous and out of touch it makes her look, is dead-set on defending the nonexistent honor of this administration.
With threats of impeachment proceedings against Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem if Trump doesn’t boot her from the administration afoot, we hopefully will begin to see the Trump administration be dismantled, and the American people will no longer have to deal with cruel MAGA propagandists like Leavitt, Noem, and, most importantly, Trump himself.
