The Experts (Pfft!) Make Super Picks

Damone Griffin, Sports Editor

I hinge my pick on three elements: Peyton Manning, the Broncos’ much improved defense and Mother Nature’s cooperation on Sunday for at least 3 hours.
Peyton Manning is just better than Russell Wilson on any Sunday or any day of the week, including holidays.
Legion of Boom is an all-time top-five nickname in sports history, but they are a little outmatched against Manning.
The Broncos defense has not allowed more than 20 points in either playoff games, so it’s safe to say they picked up the intensity.
Of course, possible snow, rain, high winds and frigid temperatures could make everything I just said null and void.

Pick: Broncos 27, Seahawks 22

I’m truly sick of hearing that Peyton Manning has to win another Super Bowl in order to be considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
As far as I’m concerned, he was in that group probably as early as five years ago.
That said, it wouldn’t hurt him to win another ring.
Standing in his way, though, is a stout Seattle defense.
That’s really the matchup I want to see. The unstoppable force against the immovable object.
In this age of countless defensive penalties potentially being called on every play, I’ll go with the formidable offense over the formidable defense.
I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the matchup when Seattle’s offense is on the field.
As Damone notes above, Denver’s defense isn’t necessarily a sieve. But it is unlikely that the Seattle offense-Denver defense showdown will stand out.
The thing I love about making picks is no one really expects me to get them right—heck, even I don’t.
But I’ll try to get this one

Pick: Broncos 31, Seahawks 27

Now, believe it or not, I do not follow NFL Football too closely. I am obviously (if you read my NHL columns) a hockey fan!
However, I have been playing football for the last 15 years so I do know what I’m talking about, I just do not know either team well enough to truly make any sort of accurate prediction.
So, when it comes down to the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, teams other than the Bears, it’s hard to pick.
I guess I will have to go with the Denver Broncos on this one. I love Peyton Manning and the character he shows on a daily basis. He bounced back from a set of surgeries on his neck to come back and remain the high-caliber quarterback we know him as.
Due purely to the respect I have for Peyton, I got the Broncos winning this one for sure. Also, any team playing against that loud-mouthed, self-centered Richard Sherman has my vote.

Pick: Broncos 35, Seahawks 28
