The Cougar Sports Den, in various forms with various hosts, has been on WXAV 88.3 FM for years.
The new Cougar Sports Den is a different brand of sporting news and commentary.

In the Jan. 29 issue of The Xavierite, I wrote an extension of the Hate Olympics segment we do at the end of every show.

That segment involves co-host Pat Wilkison and myself each choosing a figure in sports and debating over who should be the more hated entity. Co-host Brandon Swanson is the judge of the segment, choosing who came up with the person most worthy of hate.

Hate may be a strong word, but our intention is to bring to light the bad things that some sports figures do while also taking away their power by making light of them.

That is just one of the segments we do. During the first hour of the show, we cover currently active Saint Xavier University sports and sometimes preview sports whose seasons will begin soon.

Outside of our excellent sports writers here at The Xavierite and the athletes themselves, no one can give you a more educated perspective on Cougar sports.

The second hour is devoted to Chicago and national sports.

But more than anything, we just like to have fun with our time on the air.

If by some chance (as happened two weeks ago) the topic of fried Kool-Aid comes up, so be it.

Or maybe the phantom tweeter (@CougSportsDen—check the timeline) will tweet a fun fact about Swanson curling and figure skating on Lake Marion during the Sochi Olympics. That provides plenty of fodder for discussion.

Along with the Twitter campaign, we have committed ourselves to being more interactive with our listeners. You can email us at cougarsportsden.wxav@gmail.com if you want to ask a question or have your comment read on the air.

So tune in tomorrow at 4 p.m. and every Thursday thereafter, or else your life just will not be complete.
