October is right around the corner and that means “Tis the Season” for some scary movies and television shows. Here is a list of all the best horror on Netflix right now:
The Walking Dead:
If you do not know what The Walking Dead is already, you must be living under a rock. The most popular zombie show has taken the world by storm when it aired back in 2010. Deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) fights for survival in a zombie apocalypse while trying to protect his family and the group he travels with.
The Walking Dead definitely has elements of horror throughout the show; however, it is more of a drama. All six seasons are available on Netflix, so you can catch up before the seventh season returns on October 23rd on AMC.
Stranger Things:
I already reviewed Stranger Things, so check out this link to get an in-depth review, but it is still a great show. It is a monster, thriller, and mystery show mixed with a bit of 80s nostalgia. A young boy named Will (Noah Schnapp) is captured by a mysterious monster. His friends and family try whatever they can to get him back.
You can definitely tell where the writers got their inspirations for the show. Netflix announced a season 2 for Stranger Things a month ago. You should definitely start watching the best Netflix show that came out over the summer. Of course, it is my own opinion.
American Horror Story:
American Horror Story is a horror(duh) and drama series that is on FX. The fifth season will be available on Netflix on October 4th, so you have a little bit of time to catch up before the fifth season drops.
Each season tells a different story and this fifth season focuses on Hotel Cortez. This season also features pop-star, Lady Gaga, who is a stylish vampire that seduces. If you are a fan of classic horror movies, you will be able to spot all the references to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, which was also on Netflix, but they did take it off. Disappointing!
Extraordinary Tales:
Extraordinary Tales is an animated film that recreates five of Edgar Allan Poe’s poems and short stories, including “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.”
Some of the animated styles capture the mood of Poe’s poems. I will definitely recommend it if you love Allan Poe. If you love Poe, you’re weird.
The Babadook:
The Babadook is a psychological horror film about a monster that comes after you if you read about him in a children’s book. A widow thinks her son is afraid of an imaginary monster lurking in their house, but then she realizes that the monster may not be imaginary.
If you watch the movie, it might creep you out because who wants a monster creeping in your house, right? But there is an unexpected twist with a solid resolution.
The Uninvited:
The Uninvited is a psychological thriller about a girl who comes home from a psychiatric facility and tries to adjust to her father’s new relationship. However, her father’s new lover might also be connected to the death of her mother.
The Uninvited is an unexpected and shocking surprise. It is also coming out on October 1st. Just in time for spooky season. Check it out.
Check them all out on Netflix! I would have put The Exorcist on this list, but Netflix did just take it off. Again, disappointing!
