The Office of Inclusive Excellence will host a Student Workshop on April 4 where guest speaker India Prather, ESQ, founder of The Art of Scholarships, will talk about 3 Secrets to Winning Scholarships for College.
This event will take place in the Wiseman Student Lounge in the Warde Academic Center from 2-3 p.m. Prather will be speaking from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Students will have the opportunity to ask any questions and speak to Prather regarding scholarship opportunities and how to go about finding and receiving them.
During the workshop Prather will help students write scholarship letters and will hand out scholarship books.
According to the event post on TheDen, students that have “won over $5 million dollars and counting”.
At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Prather left her law career and returned to her home in North Carolina where she launched her company, The Art of Scholarships.
Prather aimed to help students find and win scholarships, aid students in their process of finding and applying to colleges, and “lighten the load off parents’ and students’ shoulders,” according to The Art of Scholarships.
Prather graduated cum laude from Wake Forest and later joined Teach for America’s Charlotte corps. She taught 9th grade Common Core math 1. During the summers, Prather worked for John Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth in Hong Kong, China. Prather has years of experience teaching and tutoring students at different levels.
Prather has taught those who are successful in the school environment, English-language learners, and those with learning disabilities, according to The Art of Scholarships.
After completing her occupancy with Teach for America, Prather decided to pursue a career in law at the University of Miami School of Law rather than in the classroom. She attended law school on a partial merit scholarship.
Like her college years, Prather was successful in winning scholarships while attending law school. Prather spent 14 years gathering over $300K in scholarship funds.
Prather won local, state and national scholarships. After graduating, Prather became a licensed attorney. Her success in finding and winning scholarships is what led to her founding of The Art of Scholarships.
Prater has been featured in different media including; Yahoo Finance, NY Weekly, and some local news channels. Her clientele consists of Hollywood child stars and celebrities.
During her free time she practices law and partners with families and universities to help teach and assist students on how to win scholarships and turn them into assets. Students that have worked with Prather have won over $5 million.
