The 2015 semester at Saint Xavier University is coming to a close and finals week is rapidly approaching. With Saint Xavier University students attending classes, studying, and trying to cram in a semester’s worth of knowledge into a small amount of time, the SXU Counseling Center hosts their semi-annual Stress Relief Week in hopes that all students will attend.
Stress Relief Week is brought to campus during the most stressful time of the semester, which is without a doubt, the week before finals. These events are hosted with the hope that students will attend and enjoy them, as well as trying to reduce the amount of stress that is associated with the hours of studying for finals.
The first day of Stress Relief Week, Monday November 3rd, was ‘Relax and Re-Center.’ On this day, between 11 am and 2 pm, students were invited to the Butler Reception Room for free massages, a walk around the labyrinth, and tea.
After getting a relaxing, ten minute massage from talented masseuses, students could walk the labyrinth, a maze-like print that is designed to allow student’s minds to be cleared while slowly walking along the path to a large center.
If this was not of interest to the students in attendance, they could also enjoy a warm cup of tea. The second day of Stress Relief Week, Tuesday December 1st, was ‘Unleash Your Inner Child.’ This event, which was hosted between 11 am and 2 pm, allowed students to enjoy some fun and games in the Butler Reception Room.
Some of the activities that were included in this event were playing with Play-Doh, origami, challenging friends to a game of Monopoly, Battleship, Clue, Connect Four, Life, or other card games, and enjoying a bag of popcorn.
‘Chill’ is an event hosted at the Career Services and Counseling Center Modular Unit behind Pacelli Hall. Between studying and attending classes, students are encouraged to stop by for an ice cream treat.
Though it may be cold outside, on Thursday December 3rd between 1 pm and 3 pm, students can still enjoy some free ice cream. The final day of Stress Relief Week, December 4, will bring back the popular ‘Lucky and Pals.’ Between 10 am and 11:30 am, students can stop by the Student Lounge to visit their favorite canine friends before the holidays.
This is the final time that the dogs will be visiting this semester. For additional information about Stress Relief Week or other services provided by the Counseling Center, students can call 773-298-3131 or email counselingcenter@sxu.edu.
Students can also visit the Counseling Center behind Pacelli Hall for more information or to make an appointment.
