This week, the SXU Women’s Volleyball wrapped up their home schedule. Traveling to Gary, Indiana to play the IU-Northwest RedHawks on October 29th. The Cougars entered the game with a 9-19 record, while the RedHawks entered with a 12-7 record.
The first set was very close, with both teams playing hard and fast. However, it was the RedHawks who won the first set with a score of 25-19. The second set was similar to the first one, with both teams playing close. However, it was the RedHawks who won the set, this time by a score of 25-20.
The Cougars stormed back in the third set, completely dominating the RedHawks and winning by a score of 25-12. The fourth and final set was intense, with both teams trading leads. However, the RedHawks managed to squeeze by in the end, winning the final set by a score of 25-23, winning the game in the process. The Cougars fell to 9-20 with the loss, while the RedHawks improved to 13-7 with the win.
The Cougars played on Halloween night against the Judson Eagles. The Eagles entered the game with an 18-13 record. The first set was close, but SXU pulled away, winning by a score of 25-17. The second set was very tight, with both teams trading leads. hanks to two clutch kills from middle back Nadia Atton and defensive specialist Colleen Corbett, the Cougars won the second set by a score of 28-26. The third and final set was completely dominated by SXU, who won with a score of 25-17. Saint Xavier improved to 10-20 with the win, while the Eagles fell to 18-14 with the loss.
Saint Xavier wrapped up their week on November 2nd against the Trinity Christian Trolls. This game was also Senior’s Day and before the game, there was a ceremony to celebrate the seniors on the team. When the game started, the Trolls sought to ruin the celebrations by completely dominating SXU in the first set. Trolls a score of 25-18.
The second set was very close, with both teams continuously trading leads. However, it was the Cougars who came out on top, eventually winning by a score of 25-22. The third set started off close, but the Trolls pulled away in the end, out-scoring SXU 10-2 in the final stretch to win the set by a score of 25-17. The fourth set was close, but the Cougars kept a small lead and eventually won 25-20.
The fifth and final set was close, yetthe Trolls pulled away, in the end, thanks to some untimely errors from SXU. The Trolls won the set by a score of 15-12, winning the game in the process. The Trolls improved to 23-7 with the win, while SXU fell to 10-21 with the loss. The Cougars will wrap up their season next week against Robert Morris University and Governor State University.
