SXU Women Fall in CCAC Opener

The Saint Xavier women’s soccer team opened their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Tuesday, September 20 against Trinity International University. An early second half goal by the visiting Trojans proved to be the difference in a 1-0 contest at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.

After the loss, the women dropped to 0-6-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Saint Xavier compiled 12 shots and seven on goal compared to TIU’s eight and five on goal, but were beat on a scoring chance in the 49th minute of play.

The Cougars were led on offense by sophomore Andreina Hernandez and senior Brittany Kroening with two shots on goal in a combined 148 minutes of playing time. Christy Bowgren, Julia Gawlak and Jillian Doan each tallied a shot on goal, to their credit.

Senior goalie Alex Perry, who won defensive player of the week honors after putting together an impressive 19 save performance on September 3, started in net for Saint Xavier in the conference opener. Unfortunately, an assisted goal by TIU beat Perry after clanking off the far post.

Perry finished her night with four saves.

The women look to get on the right track in their next conference game on the road against Purdue University Northwest. The Cougars will be in Hammond, Indiana on Saturday, September 24 eyeing their first victory of the season.
