On Saturday Sept. 24, the University of Saint Francis hosted our SXU football team in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Cougars went into this week’s matchup 1-2 after a win over Siena Heights University at home.

The game started off with a quick score by Saint Francis , and continued to top it off with a field goal 10-0 early in the first.

With three minutes left in the 2nd quarter, Junior Quarterback, Stuart Ross, throws a 14-yard touchdown pass to Senior Wide Receiver, Justin Pringle. Plus an extra point kick completed by Junior Kicker, Peyton Benes, to make the score 7-10 .

Before the end of the first half, USF kicked a field goal to make the game 7-13.

In the third quarter during Saint Francis’ drive, on a 4th and 5th on Saint Xavier’s 27 yard line, Saint Francis elects to kick a field goal.  But Junior Defensive Lineman, Ayobami Orokoyo, blocks the kick, and Senior Defensive Back, Jacob Denney scoops and scores from 60 yards out, with a field goal from Benes to tie the game 13-13.

After the blocked field goal, the Cougars were able to get another score by a pick-six to make the game 19-13 from Junior Defensive back, Kevin Countryman. Countryman had a pick-six the game before, against Siena Heights University.

In the fourth quarter, Saint Francis retained the lead of the game with a touchdown pass and field goal, to make the game 19-20.

With six minutes and twenty nine seconds left in the fourth quarter, Ross completed a touchdown pass to Pringle, following an extra point from Benes to make the game 25-20.

Saint Francis had a chance to have a game winning drive. Although, with a last second stop from 4th and short, Countryman seized the USF drive with a tackle.

Ross kneeled the game out to collect the second win in a row for our Cougars, with a final score of 25-20.
