SXU Sends Out Sexual Misconduct Campus Climate Survey

On Friday, Nov. 15, Saint Xavier University (SXU) sent out a Sexual Misconduct Campus Climate Survey. According to the university, moving forward, the survey will be conducted yearly.

The survey consists of different questions regarding the safety of students in the matter of sexual misconduct on and around campus. The questionnaire asks questions regarding relationships, dating violence, sexual experiences, and students’ overall perception of the safety of the university during the last 12 months.

By filling out the survey, students provide information to the state of Illinois of behaviors and insights that current students have towards SXU and “will help generate awareness of the issues that need to be addressed annually,” shared the university.

The survey is said to take approximately 15-20 minutes and all information provided will remain anonymous. Questions are allowed to be skipped or given an option to choose, “prefer not to respond.”

According to the university, “Participation is voluntary and may be withdrawn at any time without penalty or prejudice.”

Illinois law states that SXU is required to send out the survey to students annually. While students are not required to respond they are heavily encouraged to.

While the survey is not meant to cause distress, “potential risks and/or discomforts you could experience during this study include upsetting or distressing thoughts or feelings when answering questions related to sexual assault victimization and potential tramatic life events,” the university said.

Those who believe topics such as sexual assault will trigger past experiences are asked to not take the survey.
