Fifth-Year Senior Wide Receiver Kyle Quinn Running With the Ball SXU Athletics
In their final road game of the season, on Nov. 9, Saint Xavier took another loss, this time it was in the hands of the Saint Francis Cougars. With a final score of 27-14, the Saint Xavier Cougars now have a record of 4-6 and have lost their fourth straight game.
SXU failed to score in the first three quarters of the game, their only touchdowns of the game came in the fourth quarter but by that time it was too late.
Failing to score in the first half and in the third quarter resulted in the SXU Cougars falling into a 27-0 deficit. Saint Francis quickly took advantage as they went up 14-0 in the first quarter, and continued to score for the rest of the game.
Fifth-year senior wide receiver Kyle Quinn scored two touchdowns. Quinn hauled in the second most receptions for the team with four for 61 receiving yards and also had three carries for three rushing yards.
Quinn rushed for two yards to score the first touchdown, then in the last minute, he caught a 31 yard pass to score the second touchdown.
With fifth-year senior QB1 Stuart Ross not being available for this game, Junior quarterback Dominic D’Ambrosio made his first collegiate start. In his first start, D’Ambrosio threw for 176 yards and completed 15 of his 36 passes (41%).
Junior running back Tyreese Lee led the team in rushing yards as he was able to get 60 yards and 10 carries. Lee also made one catch in this game.
Graduate student wide receiver Julian Smith brought in the most receptions, making a total of five catches for 58 yards.
Freshman defensive back Zach Norred put up his best defensive numbers as he made a career-high 12 tackles with six of them being solo, and the other six being assisted tackles.
Fifth-year senior defensive linemen Ayobami Arokoyo accomplished great things in this game, setting a program single game record with three fumble recoveries. Arokoyo also made five tackles with three of them being solo, and 2.0 tackles for loss for three yards.
Sophomore defensive back Taj McClellan made the highlight reel as he snatched his first collegiate interception. McClellan also made five tackles with four of them being solo.
Graduate student linebacker Ryan Fitzgerald made the second most tackles as he posted up a total of 11 tackles with nine of them being solo. Fitzgerald also recorded 2.0 sacks for 13 yards, a forced fumble, and blocked a kick attempt.
Fitzgerald didn’t stop there as he recorded 3.0 tackles for loss for 15 yards, and made a fumble recovery that was returned for 10 yards.
Junior linebacker Terry Elias Jr. made a total of five tackles with two of them being solo, and also recorded 0.5 sacks for five yards and made two quarterback hurries.
Junior linebacker Chris Swayne also played well, recording eight tackles with four of them being solo.
With a great game from the defense, it is unfortunate that the offense didn’t really show up. D’Ambrosio had three of his passes picked off, and he was sacked a total of four times in this game.
As much as the SXU Cougar’s playoff hopes aren’t looking too bright, we can only hope they win their final game of the regular season so they can snap their losing streak.
The Cougars play their final game of the regular season as they face off against Judson University (Ill.) on Nov. 16, starting at noon.This game is also the “Senior Day” game, so make sure you come out and support your seniors. The game starts at 12:00 p.m.
