How news and entertainment reaches our ears these days has evolved within the last century.
The leap to radio from print was almost unheard of when it first began.
But the impact of news and amusement through the television, live or not, made Americans connect with what is happening on screen – further employing emotion from the audience.
This year, for SXU Student Media, we have learned that not only can we bring you news through the press (The Xavierite), radio (WXAV), but also our brand new channel, SXU TV.
It allows students on campus to get their source of news and entertainment from not only the paper or radio, but from the television as well!
SXU TV will be airing live with an Internet connection. Anyone will able to access it through a tablet, phone or computer. Our channel will be broadcasted through stress TV.
This new avenue not only broadcasts the Athletics, but it also looks into showcases programs we may have on campus (e.g. graduations and lectures) and student-made programming.
Yet when it is this supposed to be released? SXU TV will be broadcasting during Homecoming Week, the first week of October. The timing allows for the Homecoming game to be aired live for those that are not able to come to the game itself.
One of the key features of SXU TV is the ability to watch events SXU hosted on demand. If someone could not make a game or a lecture because of time conflicts, no problem. It will be online. A nifty feature for the busy college student.
A majority of us at the Xavierite agree that this is a great move for the school as a whole.
It is about time that Saint Xavier promotes itself through another medium for its students and the community. This promotion has been long overdue.
Better yet, Saint Xavier already has most of the equipment for SXU TV, signifying this more is relatively inexpensive and easy to implement. The transition should be smooth.
This allows the University itself to advertise itself and its event better than before – accessing a larger audience. The higher amount of traffic to SXU TV, the more people take notice in our university.
In terms of Athletics and the new station, most sports (such as football) are better experienced through watching than listening, being able to know the play by play while its happening.
With the inclusion of SXU TV, it will give students a new way to express themselves. As students can submit content to the station itself, it allows them to take their own experiences from the classroom and use it in the real world.
This channel is useful for communication majors that specialize in video – in which their student made content can be added to their portfolio.
Many of us hope to be a part of this new avenue the University has opened. Utilizing SXU TV will give a great experience for the students, faculty, staff, and those outside of Saint Xavier University.
Perhaps it is a little biased to highlight this news, but we are understandably very excited by it.
