SXU Music Department Announces Winter & Spring 2022 Audition Dates

Posted on November 3, 2021

On October 1, the Saint Xavier University Music Department announced Winter and Spring 2022 Audition dates their program will offer to potential applicants.

Students interested in becoming a band participant, are currently seeking a music major or minor, or are possibly looking to study other areas of music performance and education are invited to join the SXU band program. Three 2022 audition dates have now been released.

Each of the dates will fall on a Saturday. The first date is February 19, followed by March 19 and April 23. Time slots may vary.

Justin Antos, an adjunct faculty member and the new director of bands in the Department of Music, is an alumnus at SXU who has brought influence in his wide range of musical experiences.

In an email sent on October 22, Antos stated, “I believe our collective love of music making will be felt by our audiences this year,” whether it is during their concerts or other music showcases that captures the essence of the university’s band program.

Antos has returned to SXU to help some ‘outstanding’ students, musicians and community members learn and grow in their musical expertise.

If these individuals wish to get involved in the music program, they are in for a treat. He, too, among many of the music department professors, thinks this program right now “is the best kept secret in Chicago.”

Antos continued: “Our repertoire pushes our musicians to reach their fullest potential by highlighting our attributes and developing our weaknesses.”

“There is something for everyone in the SXU band,” Antos said, discovering that his teachings at previous schools and other institutions would reflect this in students’ skill level and musicality, despite being music majors, and minors, or even participants.

To register and reserve a spot for an audition session, people are to search the keyword: Audition found on the SXU Website. As a requirement for the registration process, students must fill out a music application form in advance to qualify for a scholarship.
