SXU Men’s Track Finds Success at Bumble Rumble and Aurora Grand Prix 

Senior Jumper Ronnie Foster Preparing to Take Off for a Long Distance Jump SXU Athletics

The Saint Xavier men’s track squad kicked things off the right way last week as they showed out in the Bumble Rumble. We had guys beat personal records (PR) and dominate races, showing everyone what they are capable of.

SXU Men’s Track and Field vs. Bumble Rumble (IA): No Score

Senior jumper Ronnie Foster was one of the athletes last week who truly outshined the competition. Foster killed it in the Triple Jump, logging a distance of 13.70m (meter) which is the second best jump in program history. This feat led him to take home first-place honors.

Foster also finished fourth place in the Long Jump, posting a mark of 6.67m. The 10th best jump in the team’s history. 

As Foster continues to have a good week, it was recently announced that he won CCAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. This is Foster’s first honor of his collegiate career.

Senior sprinter Lendale Franklin also put on a show at the Bumble Rumble as he won the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.22 seconds. This is the sixth time in Franklin’s career winning the 60m hurdles. His time was also the fifth best in team history.

During the preliminaries of the 60m Dash, sophomore sprinter Nazheer Moore clocked in a time of 7.22 seconds which is his fourth best career time. Franklin also took part in the preliminaries and clocked in a time of 6.91 seconds.

Sophomore sprinter Charles Campbell finished the dash at 7.24 seconds, his third best time of the season.

Junior sprinter Ryan McFadden performed well, finishing with a time of 7.38 seconds.

In the 200m, junior sprinter/hurdler Sean Harris finished in second place with a time of 21.88 seconds. Harris now holds the five fastest times for SXU.

Redshirt sophomore sprinter/hurdler Karam Jaber established a new PR as he finished the 200m at 22.88 seconds. 

In the Shot Put, junior thrower Donovan Jackson set a new PR throwing for 13.91m which earned him seventh place. Senior thrower Isaac Adams also set a new PR throwing at 13.42m

Sophomore thrower Thomas Imburgia found himself in eighth place after making a toss of 13.71m. 

Senior distance runner Luke Snedden placed fourth in the 1000m, finishing with a new PR of 2:43.01. Snedden’s PR is three seconds quicker than his previous best.

SXU Men’s Track and Field vs. Aurora (Ill.) Grand Prix: 2nd of 16 – 93 points

The men’s track squad came out to Saturday’s meet ready to take over. With dominant performances and the guys racing at their best, the Cougars finished in second place out of the 16 teams competing. 

Much of Saturday’s success has a lot to do with the performance from Karam Jaber. Jaber took part in the 60m Hurdles and completely wiped out the competition, hitting a new PR with the fastest time of 8.72 seconds. Jaber became the fourth sprinter in program history to win the 60m Hurdles.

Lendale Franklin put in some work this weekend as he placed second in the 60m Dash, finishing with a time of 6.97 seconds, giving him eight points. Franklin also took part in the 200m Dash, finishing with a new PR at 22.38 seconds. 

We saw a few sprinters make their season debut this weekend, starting with junior Myles Money who finished the 60m Dash with a time of 7.19 seconds. Then junior Charlie Zufan clocked in a time of 7.44 seconds, and sophomore Teddy Garman finished in 7.74 seconds.

During the 200m Dash, Sean Harris finished at 22.27 seconds, running at the sixth fastest in program history in the 200m.

Zufan and Money also took part in the 400m Dash and Zufan ran his fastest time of the season. Finishing in eighth place, Zufan clocked in a time of 50.25 seconds. Money finished right behind him with a new PR of 50.40 seconds.

In the Long Jump, SXU had many guys accomplish impressive times, sophomore jumper Faruq Sulaimon made his third best career distance at 6.10m. Foster placed second in the event with a distance of 6.85.

Senior jumper Ameen Abdus-Sabur tied his second-best career jump with a distance of 6.07m, tying for 13th overall in the event.

The SXU throwers had a great weekend as they dominated in Shot Put, junior thrower Riley Lundgren recording his second-best career throw at 15.14m, finishing at second place.

Senior thrower Ayobami Arokoyo made his season debut and he picked up where he left off, placing fifth by throwing a distance of 14.27m.

After performing so well at the Aurora Grand Prix, the Cougars plan to do it again next week Friday, January 31 at 3:00 PM as they will attend the Walter Cramer Invite hosted by Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill..
