MEN
Men’s golf has been off to a less-than-stellar start. But the Cougars are in a good position to improve. It’s been two tournaments for the men, but both have amounted to two underwhelming finishes.
The season started off at the StoneWolf Intercollegiate. The team placed 10 out of ten teams. Even though they didn’t perform how they wanted to it was still a good showing by freshman Christian Thornton, who had a score of 234.
This score placed him 28 overall which was a team best. The other freshman, Tyler Pennington, looked promising too as he obtained a score of 274. A score good enough to place him in 48 place. |
Overall, the team scored 333 the first round, 305 the second, and 331 round three to give them a total team score of 969. Senior Zach Trent’s performance at the tournament scoring a 271; good enough to place him in 64 place.
Even though the Cougars didn’t perform this time around, they had another tournament to look forward to three days later. The Cougars went down to Fulton Missouri for the Williams Woods invite.
The main question coming out of this tournament was whether or not the Cougar golf team was able to rebound from the last tournament? Yes. Overall, they placed 4 out of 7 teams which is an improvement recent last place finish.
The team was led by Junior Kyle Yaeger. Yaeger had a score of 153; a score good enough to place him in a tie for 16 place. Freshman Christian Thornton continues to impress as he had a score 154 placing him in a tie for 20 place.
Over the course of two days, the Cougars showed consistency over the two day tournament scoring 315 and 314 combining for an overall score of 629. If the Men’s Golf team can continue to play like they did at this past tournament, then they can continue to impress leading into their next tournament coming up this Friday.
WOMEN
The women on the other hand, have been met with nothing but success. The first two tournaments, the women placed 3 and 2, respectively. The women are being led by Sophomore Taylor Thompson who has been deemed CCAC Women’s Golfer of the week for two straight weeks.
The Cougars will play on Tuesday (scores will not be available at the time of print) and on Thursday. Let’s continue to show our Women’s and Men’s golf team support through the season, and let’s hope for more wins.
